I procrastinated and did research for about 12 months before I took the plunge. I couldn’t justify spending that much money on yet another kitchen appliance. I was intrigued how one single machine could possibly chop, beat, mill, emulsify, mill, knead, blend, cook, stir, steam, saute, churn, weigh and melt. No machine could do all of that effectively. Then I learnt that I could purchase one via Af
terpay, which if you haven’t heard is a payment plan $80 a month for 2 years. This meant the purchasing of the machine was doable for me. I loved it from the moment I got it but I knew I could use it more. At first I just used it to make bread and mash. Lol But when I seen what the TM6 could do I jumped at the chance to on sell my TM 5 and reinvest again in a TM 6. This my friends has been a game changer for me. How many of you ask your family what they want for dinner every day only for the decision to be left to you. This means you have to not only decide what everyone is going to eat but you have to make sure you go to the store and purchase the ingredients, when you live out of town that’s never a quick option. Then you have to wait in the checkout
Line before lugging your shopping to the car. You bring it home, unpack it, cook it, clean up and then eat it. The effort hardly seems worth it. For me the Cookidoo function was like having a helpful partner. Honestly the relief it gave me mentally was worth it. Seriously the menu planning, and shopping list function was as I said a game changer. I would pop the ingredients I already had in my Cookidoo and it gave me meal options based on the ingredient selection. It also gave me a time rating and ease of effort rating. So if I wanted a recipe with chicken that was easy and only took 30 minutes I popped that in the filters and hey presto. If I got inspired by some of the amazing recipes , 70000 to be exact from all around the world. Not only in English. I would add the recipe to my weekly menu plan and send the ingredients list to my phone, email or to hubby but what I loved the most was that I could edit the list and send it to woolies online for click and collect. This meant I didn’t have to spend 1.5 hrs doing the shopping or waiting in lengthy check out cues. Let’s face it with the advent of COVID 19 I’m certainly not keen to be spending time in a supermarket these days. The fact that most things are cooked in the one jug also meant less washing up. Set and forget means I can be doing other things while dinner is cooking, or foods are prepared so quickly (sometimes in a matter of seconds) that it only takes a moment of being in the kitchen and I am done. The built in scales mean that I rarely used anything other than the Thermomix bowl to prepare the entire meal. Foods are weighed as they are added. There is very little left to clean up after preparing food which makes a busy lady very happy. Will it change the way I shop for groceries? In a word – yes. You will be buying more flours, grains, sugar, fruit and vegetables (and cream if you like to be a bit naughty!). Basically, the Thermomix means that you will be preparing meals from whole foods so you will find yourself avoiding all the “packet” aisles in the supermarket. Because many of these ingredients can be purchased and stored in bulk, you will usually find that your shopping costs less over time, and it’s really only the fresh produce that you will need to stock up on each week. We save hundreds of dollars per month (but I do make all our own jam, butter, bread, cheese and bacon scrolls, custard, biscuits, cakes, smoothies, mayonnaise, sweetened condensed milk, caster and icing sugar, dips, pizzas, pesto, mustard, pasta sauces, vanilla essence, balsamic vinegar, curry paste, tomato paste, herb salts, shredded cheese, ice cream, gelati, Baileys, cocktails, moisturizer, hand soap, washing powder, soups, stews, yogurt, granola etc etc etc)
Buying fruit on special and freezing it to make sorbets and gelati is fabulous. We haven’t eaten this preserve free ever. As I said before, Cookidoo has over 70000 recipes world wide for you to choose from in many different languages. All recipes are triple tested and I can vouch for many of them. When you purchase your TM6 you will receive a 6 month free subscription to Cookidoo. You can down load the app right
Now and have a gander. A one year subscription is only $49. Less than a cook book. Honestly you don’t get better value for money than that. All the thermomix cook books are also added to the Cookidoo. Ie low carb, gluten free, cooking for two, the basic cook book just to name a a few. The TM 6 now comes with the high heat function so you can caramelise those onions, sauté the garlic , deep fry the donuts from the batter you just made in the same bowl. It has a pre clean function too. There are a few different ways to use your thermi. Guided cooking – which takes you step by step through the recipe on the display screen. Manual – which allows you to do your own thing – adapt your old family favourite, and be as creative as you choose. Does it make enough for a large family? I easily feed 6 – 8 guests. It is easy to bulk out a meal with salad, rice, pasta or potato. The Thermomix bowl has a 2.2ltr capacity, and the Veroma (steamer) has a 3.3ltr capacity – giving you 5.5ltr of food if you wish. OK so… Is it worth the money? Ahhh – the $2359 question! The answer isn’t black and white. Is a kitchen appliance really worth just over two thousand dollars? I know it’s a huge investment, and it’s not a decision to be made lightly. If I were to consider how much time it saves me in preparing, cooking and cleaning, as well as how much healthier we are eating as a result of eliminating additives and preservatives from our diet, then the investment has certainly paid off very quickly for us. I also sold my TM5, my bread maker, Bamix, digital scales, and juicer on eBay and Buy/Swap/Sell sites and paid for almost half of the cost of our Thermomix. There are several easy ways of paying for a Thermi, of course you can buy it outright or take advantage of the three easy monthly payments or with interest-free finance (zip money and Afterpay) which works out to be approx $80 a month for 24 months. When you do purchase your Thermi you get a-lot of accessories with it and you also get me. Yes me. I’ll help you unbox your new investment and teach you how to make a few different things using most of the functions. You’ll be added to an exclusive FB and Insta page that will have cooking demos all the time for you to enjoy and feel supported. I’m always only a phone call away. After all we want you to get the most out of your Thermi. I hope this has been a little helpful for those of you who are making the decision about whether to buy a Thermomix. Please feel free to ask me any questions
