It is with great sadness that I inform you that artist, Susannah Blaxhill, has passed away on July 1 2025. After leaving high school in Armidale NSW she moved to England and ultimately became a world renowned botanical artist, creating the most intricately beautiful artworks, leading the way in depicting fruit and vegetables. I was privileged to be in Susannah’s class at school and to have lessons from her in the early days of her teaching botanical drawing. She was a gentle and generous teacher and an incredible artist. She was a member of the Society of Botanical Artists and exhibited in many well known museums including the Smithsonian Institution and in Tokyo, London, Venice and Edinburgh to name a few. The image of the beetroot is one of her best known works now part of the Shirley Sherwood Collection.

These pieces are flying, and not just off the pillows! And we have many more to come. These ones have been made by Margaret, Annemieke and myself and will be framed to be hung in the newly renovated Court House in Uralla. The Court House is now a function centre for the town and looks fabulous.
