Over the last few months, I've spent a lot of time thinking about where Scimarec is heading.

I've worried about workshops, flyers, molds, Facebook ads, pricing, classes and what I should be offering next.

But recently I realised something important.

People don't come to Scimarec because of the ceramics. They don't come because of the paint. They don't come because of the sketchbooks or mixed media supplies. Those things are simply the tools we use.
What people are really looking for is a place where they feel comfortable enough to create.
A place where there is no pressure to be perfect.
A place where they can relax, have a laugh, try something new and leave feeling proud of themselves.
Over the years I've watched people walk into my studio saying:
"I can't draw."
"I'm not creative."
"I'm going to mess this up."
Then I've watched those same people create something beautiful and leave with a smile on their face.

That's the part that matters.

The artwork is wonderful, but seeing someone gain confidence, connect with others, express themselves and discover what they're capable of is even better.
Maybe Scimarec was never really about ceramics.
Maybe it was always about creativity, connection and giving people permission to create without judgement.
The paint, clay, pencils and canvas are simply the vehicles that get us there.

So as Scimarec continues to grow, that's what I want it to be known for.
Not just a ceramics studio. Not just workshops.
But a creative space where people of all ages can come exactly as they are, explore their creativity and discover that they are capable of far more than they think.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey so far.

You have taught me as much as I have taught you.

A heartfelt update from Scimarec Ceramics 💛

Like many small providers in the disability sector, I’ve been watching the ongoing NDIS reforms with a mix of concern, reflection, and honesty.

The disability space is changing rapidly, with tighter regulations, increased compliance, funding pressures, and a stronger focus on measurable outcomes and “value for money.” While accountability is important, many small providers are feeling the impact — and so are the participants and families who rely on personalised, genuine support.

Over the past few years, Scimarec has had the privilege of supporting people through creativity, confidence-building, connection, and meaningful one-on-one sessions. That part of my work has been incredibly rewarding and humbling.

However, as the landscape continues to shift, I’ve made the decision to gradually evolve my business in a new direction.

Scimarec will be moving toward a broader creative wellbeing space — offering workshops, art experiences, creativity for confidence, connection, and personal growth for the wider community, not solely NDIS-focused services.

As part of this next chapter, I’m also studying mental health, with a long-term vision of creating a space where creativity, wellbeing, and supportive conversation come together in meaningful ways 💛

This isn’t goodbye to the heart of what I do — creativity has always been about healing, expression, joy, and bringing people together. That will never change.

It’s simply time to build something more sustainable, more flexible, and aligned with where both my heart and the industry are heading.

To every participant, family, coordinator, and supporter who has been part of my journey so far — thank you. Your trust has meant more than you know.

The next chapter is one I’m genuinely excited for.

Saturday Sketching has slowly become one of my favourite parts of the week 💜

No pressure. No perfection. Just a small welcoming group of people sitting together, learning, creating and building confidence one sketch at a time.

Some come to improve their drawing, some come to relax, and some simply need a safe creative space to breathe for a few hours.

If you’ve ever wanted to learn sketching but felt too nervous, not talented enough, or unsure where to start… this class was made for you.
At the moment I only have 2 spaces available in the mens group.
Please like feel free to give me a call or pm me for more details. Penny-Sue 0420244903
