This trail was opened for motos but is now frequented by MTB riders. Most of it is pretty fast descending trail with ridiculous amounts of line choice. Some sandy sections slow you down and let you get your head back together. some of the drops are just perfect at high speed! Enjoy the ride!

Gotta love slab rock. In this section you start to get a taste for the mix of "slickrock" and sandy, drifty trail that is the big theme for the remainder of the experience. Oh so sublime.

An open and fast section of vehcile tracks with some nice little jumps (water bars). Look right and there is a massive cliff running along the right hand side of the trail now! With some GoPro Artist input from HM Lim

Back in 2012 while I was National Director for IMBA Australia I was lucky enough to attend 3 major bike related events in the USA. Interbike (Vegas), Outerbike (Moab) and the IMBA World Summit (Santa Fe). In between I took some annual leave, but continued with RnD type activities. It was a life changing trip, but I felt great responsibility to bring what I had learnt back to Australia.

As part of these events I rode a number of incredible trails but mostly importantly I was able to sample a few Epic Descents. Full days of descending on breathtaking trails. The 3 most famous rides I did with my mate HM from Singapore were Whole Enchilada (Moab), Monrach Crest (Salida) and Mt Williams (Santa Fe). Australia does not have that kind of elevation drop in a form that is easily accessible but I was inspired nonetheless.

Upon return to Australia I proceeded to talk up the notion of long distance descents of Intermediate difficulty rating to anyone that would listen. At the time Kinsporn at Bike Buller was the only trail that came close to this kind of riding, unless you were poaching an illegal line or hiking trail somewhere. Reps from Thredbo and Buller paid attention. Maybe others too. I really wanted Aussie trail providers to see past the winter ski industry and start to use the whole elevation drop of their mountains for the Summer. The humble little seed IMBA Australia planted possibly lead to the creation of the Thredbo Valley Trail, Buller Alpine Epic and Lake Mountain (Cascades?) descent etc. I was pushing the SA govt to consider these kind of descents (although shorter) in the Mt Lofty Ranges and Flinders Ranges too. Please note; I am not tryng to take credit for these trails and the hard work to make them a reality but IMBA did help to open the converstation.

There are a number of longer descents now available down under, Bay of Fires being my current favourite and it is great to see the industrty and market maturing. But we are not done yet.

Here is a flashback to 2012 of some of my RnD at Moab on Whole Enchilada Part 1. Just for fun!

Trail Concepts started in 2017, then some home school activity and flagging in 2020. Digging and shaping started in 2024 and still going on this loop. It's a love job and trying to fit in some progress between professional trail contracts, property managment, drought, floods and other parts of general living in the Northern Rivers. Almost done now though.

The rock stash! I still can't bring myself to throw away rocks while digging trail! Never know when you might need them!

Creek crossings, corrals, dry stone walls or unique trail features. Keep them and get creative!
