Meet the Maker: Christine of Magpie Tree Pottery 🌿🏺
Since picking up clay in 2020, Christine has built something truly special. Together with her husband John, she runs Magpie Tree Pottery, creating predominantly wheel-thrown pieces finished in their own unique, handmade glazes. No two pieces are ever quite the same!
Christine and John love to experiment with alternative firing techniques like raku and barrel firing. These methods bring out unpredictable, one-of-a-kind surfaces full of smoky tones, crackle and flashes of colour.
For around two years now, Christine has been a much-loved part of the Harmony Studio family, guiding our students through their wheel classes with patience, skill and plenty of encouragement. 🙌

Friday Walkthrough with Kate

It’s all happening at Harmony this week, and Kate is taking us through the nursery to show you what’s looking fantastic.

Our Leucospermum are in full bloom, the new season lavender has arrived, and the clematis are starting to bloom, bringing that beautiful burst of spring colour to the garden. The cottage plants are looking great too, and the place is absolutely jam-packed with colour.

If you’re looking to fill some gaps in the garden, add a splash of colour or create that full, established look, we’ve got plenty to choose from.

We’ve also just had advanced blueberries arrive, and our Harmony Grown, chemical-free tomato and vegetable seedlings are well and truly in full swing. It’s a great time to get your spring vegetable garden underway.

It was lovely to have our great friends Robert and Sally Wise drop into Harmony today.

If you listen to ABC talkback, you’ll no doubt be familiar with Sally and her amazing cooking advice, tips and tricks. We absolutely love listening to her and the easy, practical way she shares her knowledge about cooking. We have three of Sally’s books at home, and they’re all well-loved and regularly used.

Robert is always up for a yarn after the garden talkback and is an all-round great bloke. We’ve loved getting to know them both over time, and it’s always a pleasure to catch up and share a conversation about gardens, food, growing and all the things we’re passionate about here in Tasmania.

And of course, Robert and Sally didn’t arrive empty-handed! They brought along some of their famous c***r and home brew, which was very much appreciated. I can’t wait to try Robert’s brew.

It’s these sorts of visits that really make the Harmony experience special. It’s not just about plants and gardening — it’s about the people we meet, the conversations we have and the community that has grown around Harmony over the years.

Always great to see you both and have a good yarn.

🌿 Harmony Garden of the Month 🌿

This month, we’re celebrating a wonderful water-wise garden featuring a beautiful selection of South African natives, including Leucadendrons and Leucospermums, alongside coastal plants.

If this is your garden, we’d love you to reach out. We have a free plant to the value of $18.95 as a little thank you for sharing the inspiration.

We’ve been respectful of your privacy by keeping the house number out of view, and the garden was admired entirely from the footpath.

Congratulations on creating such a beautiful, water-wise garden. You should be very proud of what you’ve achieved. It’s a wonderful example of how thoughtful plant selection can create a stunning garden while being mindful of our precious water resources.
