I remember it well.
I was in school staring at the window clearly engaged in what the teacher was saying and I saw it coming over.
Where were you that day?

No, it's not a scene from a disaster film. On this day in 1983, a massive dust storm rolled in and enveloped Melbourne, including our Spire.

Swept in from The Mallee, the dramatic sandy storm contained tonnes of top soil from central Victoria and South Australia, was dumped on the city, covering cars, gardens, houses – and yes, Arts Centre Melbourne – throughout the city.

The event became known as, “When the Mallee visited Melbourne”.
