While there are always jobs to do out in the field, there is also always planning to do. I’m brain is often thinking about the next season and what I need to be doing now in preparation. Last night was all about planning for Oct/Nov blooms. What beds do I have available, what flowers do we want, how long from planting to bloom for each different variety??? So much to consider. But I’m excited to see how much of this plan works and learn for coming seasons. Always learning.

Digging dahlias is rewarding, exciting and disappointing all at the same time. Sometimes you dig up a plant and there are lots of tubers which means we can plant more of that variety next year. Others plants there is only one or two tubers and some don’t make it at all. I heard someone say ‘hold them loosely in your heart’ which is such good advice because sometimes your favourites die and other times you get multitudes and you cannot predict it. Don’t hold too tight and be thankful for what you do have. Actually great life advice.

We put a low electric fence around the new seedlings to protect them from pigs and to this point it has been working. Thankfully no evidence of pigs in there.

It’s all action in the cut flower field this week. We are planting out over 5000 seedlings by hand ready for our spring flowering season. Can’t wait to see these beauties in bloom.

Our chocolate lab ‘Wally’ escaped our yard on Friday 24th April and is still missing. He has a red collar with a name tag and phone number. He is super friendly and greatly missed by us and our other dog. Please let us know if you’ve seen him
anywhere.

Flower farm update: we have been busy expanding our flower beds so we can grow more flowers next season. So thankful for the ‘big farm’ tractor and implements we can use in the flower farm. Although it was a little tight for that big plough in here.

I’m always planning and dreaming of the next stage, so it’s super exciting when we can cross something big off that ‘one day’ list.

We hosted a hens party pick your own session this weekend. So lovely to have a group of beautiful ladies together celebrating the bride to be and enjoying time together in the flowers. I love seeing the uniqueness of everyone’s arrangements.

White and green DIY bucket going out this weekend filled with boundary snowflake dahlias and key lime pie and polar bear zinnias. I really enjoy picking for DIY buckets. Tell me your colour theme and I’ll pick whatever I have in those tones for you to create your own arrangement. So much fun!!!
