It was a delight for a few our tour group to visit Kazue san of .lab at her new Atelier.

A place that displays her collection of vintage sashiko and boro pieces from around Japan including beautiful samples of Kogin-zashi from Hirosaki.

Down stairs is the workshop area and shop also a beautiful space that has been renovated with care for the heritage of the building. A calming and inviting space to visit.

Opening earring in June. A must place to visit when you’re in Kyoto.

What a very special day we had with the Yuza sashiko guild. Many thanks to Reiko Domon and her amazing friends.
It’s always such a treat to be a part of the group for a day… there is always laughter and fun while learning their techniques.

We then travelled to Ojiya to find out more about Ojiya Chijimi. A traditional textile that is perfect to wear on hot summer days in Japan.. well anywhere actually!
It was fun to have a go at weaving and we all made a coaster to take home as a souvenir.

What a memorable day we had with a visit to Sato Yoko’s museum where we learnt a lot about the history of Koginzashi and experienced her very generous hospitality… of course there was some shopping to be done.
A lesson which is always fun and a visit to the factory area and then of course there was their gorgeous shop.
Lastly we popped into a favourite shop of mine to visit my friends where I also met Lisa from

Hirosaki a place I always feel at home in.
Famous for Koginzashi and apples 🍏
We enjoyed learning about indigo dyeing and all the steps involved.
The afternoon was finished off with a walk in the Hirosaki Castle grounds.

Our first textile tour has come to the end and here are just a few photos from our time together.
We enjoyed many experiences from learning sashiko from . Thank you Yuko San for a perfect day.
We spent a day which was very busy. I loved the hand made wooden stamps so added a few to my collection.
Temari making which was lots of fun as usual. Thank you Naho and the team.
Next on the Shinkansen to Nagoya and Arimatsu for shibori dyeing.

We visited Olympus Thread and leant more sashiko techniques and enjoyed a tour of the factory… many thanks for all your kindness .
The weather has been amazing the whole time so Kinkakuji Temple looked splendid in the sunshine.
