A positive story from the “Great Flood”.

In the middle of the night of the morning of the flood, in the dark with head torches, my husband and I were swimming around in our pjs in the freezing putrid water in our garage, trying to save as many valuables as we could. I had completely forgotten about my plastic tubs of suncatchers and other things I had been selling at markets and online… He yelled out, “Denise, your tubs of crystals are floating!” I did a lot of screaming, but no idea what I said, other than “Save the suncatchers!”

The tubs were bashing up against the walls of the garage from the force of the moving water and being the hero he is, Jesse navigated through all sorts of dangerous debris to retrieve my tubs one at a time and push them through the water to me, to lug upstairs…

After months of dealing with post-flood dramas, I finally opened the tubs this morning to inspect and can report they miraculously did not get any flood water inside them!

Unfortunately, I won’t be making any timber products for a while. I live in Lismore, NSW and our house was badly affected in the 2022 flood last week. Lost the mitre saw, table saw, belt sander, reciprocating saw, most of my screws and special little things like all in one drill bit / chamfers, etc. All that’s left is a circular saw, an orbital sander, drill and some drill bits. I still have the majority of the timber that didn’t float away - but all disorganised and covered in sludge. One of my wonderful friends stood there 2 days ago and pressure cleaned many individual bits of my “favourite”, pretty bits of timber that I was saving to make special things ❤️

I’ve been gifted no less than 33 watercolour painting books from friends and family… ❤️ The generosity of others makes me feel really lucky. Thank you to everyone who believes in me and my goals 🖌🎨… Next, I’ll need to build a custom bookshelf to store them!
