Albo! Taking everything from every small business!
Meet my new 47% co-founder. He doesn’t show up to work, he doesn’t have any ideas, he didn’t lose a single night’s sleep building this, he’s never once put his house on the line, and yet somehow he still gets nearly half. Truly inspiring stuff.
The Fed Govt announcement on Capital Gains Tax was a kick in the teeth to business owners. A big, steel-capped, “thanks for your service” kind of kick. Delivered by Jim Chalmers, signed off on by Anthony Albanese.
What a team.
Many would know, I run multiple businesses. Lash Tribe, Nexus Ai, and a third that’s still top secret (sorry Jim, you and Albo don’t get a heads up on that one either).
There’s a lot people don’t see behind starting and owning a business.
You don’t pay yourself for months, sometimes years.
You don’t pay your own super, until you might be able to afford to.
You put your home on the line.
You miss school carnivals, bath times and birthday parties.
You sleep 3-4 hours a night for months at a time.
Your body breaks down, and sometimes your mind.
You miss family time you’ll never get back.
But sure, Jim. You and Albo sleep well. Collect your cheques. Lovely stuff.
You sign up for all of it because one day, maybe, you might build something worth something.
Most never do.
Most businesses fail. The ones that succeed are run by people who sacrificed far more than any balance sheet will ever show.
And the new policy says: do ALL of that, then hand over nearly half to someone who couldn’t tell you what your business actually does.
I’m all for paying fair tax. I pay plenty of it. But there’s a difference between fair, and punishing the exact people crazy enough to back themselves and build something in this country.
Would love a rethink on this one, Jim. Whenever you’re ready, mate.
