I don’t usually take custom orders.

But this lovely customer met me at a market, then came to another market the following week with her tableware in hand so we could match the colours.

And 24 floral embossed side plates later, here we are. 😂

Not technically flowers, but definitely flower-adjacent, so I think they’re allowed 😂

And seeing how much she loved them? Very satisfying!

I used to think that when you ran a small business, you should say yes to every opportunity that came your way. Every opportunity means growth, right?🤷‍♀️

I’ve turned down two big opportunities in as many days because I’ve realised that not every opportunity is right for me, even if it might be good for my business.

Sometimes saying no means protecting my time, my health or the values that matter to me.

And sometimes there’s no bigger business reason than simply: I don’t want to! 😂

I’m learning that building a business I love also means building one that fits the life I actually want to live.

And it turns out, sometimes I’m actually good at saying no!

In my previous life, I spent a lot of time working with organisational values. Not just words on a wall, but the principles that shape decisions and people’s experiences.

So when I thought about the values of Michelle Ehmann Ceramics, I wanted them to reflect how I actually run my business and what I’m intentionally building here.
