Food has a pretty incredible way of bringing people together.

It doesn’t have to be fancy. Sometimes it’s just a hot meal, a conversation and a few minutes where someone feels welcome.

BBQ is simply something I love doing. But over the last few years, I’ve realised it can also be a way to connect with people, give something back and hopefully put a smile on someone’s face.

We’ve all got something we’re passionate about.

The question is — how can you use yours to do a little bit of good? ❤️🔥

What’s your “BBQ”?

We spend so much of our lives being defined by what we do for work. But I don’t think our job is what really defines us.

It’s how we treat people. The time we give. Whether we show up for others. And ultimately, how we make people feel.

For me, BBQ is something I love. But it’s also become a way to connect with people, share a meal and hopefully make someone’s day a little better.

So what’s your “BBQ”?

Maybe you cook, build things, teach, grow vegetables, play music, coach sport or simply have time to listen.

Whatever your passion is, ask yourself:

How can I use what I love to help someone else?

Because one day, people probably won’t remember your job title.

They’ll remember how you treated them. ❤️🔥

A great chat with Leith Forrest on 5AA yesterday, talking all things Smoke & Soul Project.

Thanks Leith and the 5AA team for having me on and giving me another opportunity to share the story of our 59-day journey around Australia. ❤️🔥

There’s something special about slow-cooked meat. 🔥

Low heat. Good smoke. Plenty of time. No shortcuts.

Watching a tough cut slowly transform into something tender, juicy and packed with flavour — that’s the beauty of BBQ.

Sometimes the best things just can’t be rushed. 🥩🔥

A really special part of the Smoke & Soul journey in Broken Hill. ❤️🔥

A huge thank you to ABC Broken Hill for sharing the story of our time with Feeding Friends at Kintore Reserve.

Feeding Friends is doing incredible work, serving meals every night to people experiencing homelessness or doing it tough, supported by a community that continues to donate food and lend a hand.

It was a privilege to bring the BBQ along, cook some food and be a small part of what they do.

One of the biggest things I’ve taken away from the Smoke & Soul Project is just how powerful a meal can be. It’s food, but it’s also a chance to sit down, have a conversation and make someone feel welcome.

Thank you Broken Hill for making us feel so welcome. ❤️

As demand for food charities and housing services rise, one family has travelled Australia with barbecues and smokers to deliver low-cost and slow-cooked meat dishes to people experiencing hardship.

A huge thank you to Jo Laverty and the team at ABC Adelaide for having me on Afternoons on 891 ABC Adelaide.

It was great to sit down and talk about the Smoke & Soul Project now that our 59-day journey around Australia has come to an end.

We spoke about the people we met, what I learned about homelessness along the way, and how sharing a simple BBQ meal can create dignity, connection and conversation.

Thanks Jo for giving me the opportunity to share the story and, more importantly, keep the conversation around homelessness going.

Really appreciate you having me on. 😎👍

SMOKE & SOUL SATURDAYS — SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ❤️🔥

I’m incredibly proud to share that after completing the Smoke & Soul Project, we have $10,552 remaining — and that money will be given back to the charities and organisations we partnered with along the journey, helping them continue to support and feed people who are homeless or doing it tough.

This simply wouldn’t have been possible without an incredible amount of generosity.

A huge thank you to Specialty Foods Adelaide, Top End Meats Broken Hill and Collins Court Butchers Mount Gambier, along with the other butchers and suppliers who donated food or looked after us with discounts along the way.

Thank you to Ampol for the fuel support, Lane’s BBQ for keeping us supplied with rubs, seasonings and sauces, Silvio at Charcoal Kings, and the team at Phantom Screens for getting behind the project from the early stages.

Every donation, discount, product and bit of support meant less money we had to spend — which ultimately means more money can now go back into helping people who need it.

And most importantly, thank you to every single person who donated through our GoFundMe.

You trusted us with your money and supported this crazy idea of travelling around Australia cooking BBQ for people who are homeless or doing it tough. We couldn’t have served as many meals as we did without you.

Now, $10,552 gets to go back into the communities that welcomed us.

From my family to every person who supported Smoke & Soul — thank you. ❤️

Feeding those in need, one barbecue at a time.
