Take a pause and a deep breath before your next renovation or project at home…

Before your next renovation, home refresh or project you are working on, please pause and take a minute to consider this question:

How do you want to feel when you walk into the space?

(We so often dive into the task and don’t think enough about the plan and our intent behind our renovation... )

The words that we come up with can guide the end result - sophisticated, elegant, happy, inspiring, cosy, warm…

With these words, and the feelings that we want to evoke, the spaces we bring to life and design will be curated to fit those words, and that makes our choices of furniture, textiles and finishes so much more intentional and guided.

The desire for something more can be hidden. It often comes with a bit of restlessness, a sense of frustration, a sensation of I can't quite put my finger on what's not right…

So often it's simply that we have outgrown what's around us. Time has shifted, and we quietly realise that perhaps we haven't shifted with it, and neither has our home.

When hard works, we carry on working. But when it stops working, it's time to soften -ourselves, our thinking, and the home that holds us too.

Don’t get me wrong, mood boards do a lot of the heavy lifting at the early part of a project, providing a colour map and aesthetic direction, but perfection and the most beautiful board to get you to your project goals? No….

Without floorplans and spacial plans that create a home for you that will function, the prettiest of colours and most gorgeous of materials won’t help you…

That’s why I’m a firm believer in spending a time in the Concept Phase. In this project, we’ve got some lovely boards, but the real magic is in the proposed floorplan…

Let’s review some of the key points in this proposed design:

➡ Floorplan that opens up the space for living large and together
➡ A huge kitchen island, for entertaining, hosting and living around
➡ Flexible dining - cosy for everyday and large enough for those bigger events…

At this point in the design process we are exploring options and settling on a design that will be the foundation to create all those experiences…

How is the renovation coming along? Have you started, or is something still holding you back? I'm noticing a lot of "feeling stuck" recently, and here is what I know...the missing piece isn’t necessarily having the builder in place, or knowing exactly what tiles you want….

The missing piece is often the plan, or the concept for your home. The bigger picture, the vision and essentially the map that will get to where you want to go. 😊
