This week, we’re sharing a handy window cleaning hack that many homeowners don't know about 👇

Did you know you can remove the sliding panel from most aluminium windows to make cleaning easier?

Simply grip both sides of the sliding sash, lift it up into the top of the frame, then pull the bottom of the panel towards you to remove it. This gives you much better access to clean both the glass and the window tracks thoroughly.

⚠️ Just be sure to lift with care and place the panel on a soft surface while cleaning to avoid scratching the frame or glass. Reinstall by reversing the process.

💡 Pro tip from Russco's: Removing the sliding panel makes it much easier to reach those awkward corners and achieve a streak-free finish on both sides of the glass.

With the dry season just around the corner, here's something many homeowners don't think to check... ants around your window frames 🐜👇

Most aluminium windows are sealed with Sikaflex to help keep out water and the elements. Unfortunately, ants love to chew and tunnel through sealant as they create pathways around your windows. If left unchecked, this can compromise the seal and increase the chance of water ingress once the wet season returns.

Take a few minutes to walk around your home and look for ant trails or nests around your window frames. Catching them early is a simple way to protect your windows and avoid costly repairs later.

💡 Pro tip from Russco's: If you notice ants around your windows, treat the infestation as soon as possible and inspect the sealant for any signs of damage. If the seal has been compromised, Russco's can help with professional resealing.

This week, we’re talking cleaning louvre windows — the trick to keeping every blade sparkling clean 👇

Start by dusting each louvre with a microfibre cloth or soft duster to remove loose dirt before you start cleaning. Then wash the glass with warm, soapy water using a soft cloth, making sure to clean both sides of each blade.

For the finishing touch, spray Windex onto a clean, dry microfibre cloth and wipe each louvre to achieve a crystal-clear, streak-free shine. Using a lint-free microfibre cloth and cleaning out of direct sunlight will help prevent streaks and give you the best result.

💡 Pro tip from Russco's: Tilt each louvre fully open one way, clean one side, then reverse the blades to easily access the other side.

A valued member of the Russcos crew, Glen has developed into a reliable tradesman who's always willing to learn, take on a challenge, and lend a hand wherever it's needed. As he heads into his final year of his apprenticeship, he's continuing to build his skills across all aspects of the glazing trade.

When he's not on the tools, you'll usually find him with a guitar in hand, having a jam with his old man.
