Did you know that you can eat dahlia tubers? We tried boiled and roasted and they actually weren’t bad at all. Hard to describe as they really are their own flavour but boiled is a sweet earthy taste and roasted is different again but both good.
They obviously need to be washed thoroughly and peeled and l wouldn’t want to eat if they have been chemically treated but these haven’t and it’s just like preparing potatoes.
Well l can say l’ve tried them ✅

Don’t underestimate the power of the mini tubers, they’ll grow just as well as the larger ones and sometimes even better as long as they have a viable eye and are healthy then they’ll be good to go 👍🏻

An easier and faster way to divide dahlia tubers is with a little multi tool cutter and it’s way more fun!

cordless Secateurs for the win with cutting all the dahlia stalks.
They can get pretty thick and hard to cut through so when you have lots to do these really make it a lot easier and quicker to get through them all 🙌🏻

I haven’t had a chance this week to dig up my dahlias. With all the rain l was worried about rot so tonight l dug a few up to see and the ground is actually draining really well and the soil is good but rain has gotten down a couple of stems and it’s been sitting so with one it rotted the neck so l don’t think the tuber s will do well so I’ll probably bin it but l think l caught the other couple in time.
I only did a few to check but it’s pretty much sealed what I’ll be doing for the next few days.
We haven’t had a decent frost which l was waiting for so they can shut down but it is what it is and even though they are still green they look really healthy and now the pressure is on to cure them, divide them and store them properly. Wish me luck 🙏🏻🤞🏼

I hate the flowers all falling to one side and squishing each other and when it’s been raining it’s even worse so l went to the hardware store and got some aviary mesh and cut and bent it to the size l wanted and voila now they stand up and use all the bucket and don’t squish each other and gives you more room to use.
I took photos of what l used if you want to give them a go yourself but just be careful of the sharp edges 🙂

So much time and effort goes into the dahlia season and they are only here for such a short time so it’s lucky they are worth it and l love them 🩷

How perfect is this rose. The flowers keep making an appearance because it’s been too warm to shut down 🌻

I think l have the wormiest veggie patch in town 😂🙌🏻
