Big love for this GIANT rose bush near our house that seemingly belongs to no one. A stray rose bush, you might say.

It grows wild on the side of the road, nowhere near anyone’s house, and is easily the size of a car.

I love imagining how it got there, who planted it, and how many seasons it’s survived. And I remind myself it was overdue for a prune when I cut branches from it. I’m doing a public service really 😂

Alpine Strawbs 🍓

These plants are in their second season and the stem length has gotten so good! They are absolutely loaded with fruiting stems at the moment!

And they’re definitely self-seeders too. I need to go through and dig up the baby plants to keep extending the row.

We said goodbye to our sweet old man Sully today. This guy was our first foster fail and the best first dog we could have asked for. He spent the last 8 years being my shadow and came absolutely everywhere with us. We bloody loved that dog - he was so worth the heartbreak.

We’re 7 weeks into our bathroom and hallway reno, and are finally getting to the fun part!

The floor plan has changed approximately 17 times with some changes being exciting upgrades while others had me verging on a toddler style tantrum. Thankfully, the original mood board (slide 2) is still mostly relevant.

We’re probably only about 60% of the way through, but looking back at the before photos already feels a bit wild. The new window, back door, and hallway flooring went in last week so for the first time it feels like things are moving quickly. There was so much structural stuff that needed doing first like replacing piers, bearers, and joists, so these updates are definitely a lot more fun!

The plasterer is here this week, the waterproofer is up next, and then the really exciting stage begins when the tiler arrives the following week. After that it should only be a couple more weeks until it’s finished!

1000 pansies tucked into the soil back in March… all in the name of long, dreamy stems by August.

Last year we ordered our pansy plugs to arrive in May but didn’t get good stem length until the very end of September. Meanwhile, our January-sown seedlings were ready by late August so we’ve shuffled things forward this season and ordered our plugs earlier to match.

We’re also trialling something new: edging on our in-ground beds. The idea is to give the plants a bit of support and a touch of shade so they stretch up for the light. This one came from our chat with Jen at on the podcast who grows her pansies in raised beds with lower soil levels. Will report back next Spring with my thoughts
