This is a portion of what may have been the most time consuming artwork we’ve ever made!

Every tiny fern frond was individually hand cut from paper with scissors, painted, and layered. And layered. And layered!

It was truly a test of our patience and our hand dexterity, but we think the result was worth the effort. Because every frond is slightly different, (just like the real thing) it has an organic feel that using machines would never give it.

Our artworks are a celebration of the beautiful intricacy of nature and the joy of making something slowly, by hand.

It has been so satisfying watching our little acorn grow in the clever Acorn Vase / ILEX STUDIO. First the roots appeared, then a tiny shoot, and now the leaves, and suddenly we have the beginning of an oak tree in our shop!

A lovely reminder to notice and appreciate the little things in life.

We have the Ilex Studio acorn and avocado vases in our shop if you would like to start your own little science experiment! 🙂🍀

As each of our artworks are made by hand, piece by piece, cut by cut, there comes a point when we need to close commissions so we can finish everything before Christmas.

Inspired by the way light catches on water, this artwork began by watching the shifting reflections you see in ripples, colours breaking apart, overlapping and changing with every movement.

We’ve tried to capture that feeling in layers of hand-painted paper, building up the pattterns piece by piece. Available in our Malvern shop and from our online store.

Our fabulous felt flowers have been walking out the door this week! We have lots of different varieties and colours in stock so come in and put together a bouquet today or tomorrow, or browse our selection online.

We are taking a little holiday next week so our Malvern shop will be closed from 20th-25th September.

We’ve had a little shelfie shuffle in the shop. The joy (and struggle!) of having a small shop is that, as pieces find homes and we accomodate new arrivals, everything needs to move around. It sometimes feels like a giant game of colour co-ordinated Tetris!

The fact that the shop is never ‘finished’ is one of our favourite things, and in the process of a reshuffle we always find pieces that work together in new combinations and items we had almost forgotten how much we loved!
