This Aberfeldie bathroom was dark, dated and cramped.

The brief: design a fresh and functional space with plenty of personality — on a tight budget.

We saved by keeping the plumbing points unchanged and opting for high-low tiling: show-stopping terrazzo where it counts, paired with a simple and affordable (but still gorgeous) tile above.

Deleting the tiny window - which was giving serious prison cell vibes - and adding a skylight above the shower means the space is now flooded with natural light.

The front room is so often the most under-used space in a home.

At Bloomfield House, theirs had become a drying room and general drop zone, with the doors closed to hide the mess most of the time. Which was a real shame… because it’s a beautiful space with high ceilings, period features and leadlight windows creating a gorgeous buttery light.

It’s still a work in progress - fireplace yet to be clad in stone and custom bookshelf to be installed. So far we’ve painted the dark timber, reinstated a former fireplace and furnished the space with some beautiful Jardan pieces to give it a luxe, loungey vibe.

The best part? My clients now look forward to spending time in this room, rather than keeping the doors shut.

The brief: we don’t want to look like every other hair salon.

We started with an empty shell, a strong vision and a crazy timeline… from keys to open in just over two months, over Christmas.

Sculptural curves, touchable textures, statement stone and terrazzo created a hair salon that feels more like a day spa than a blow-dry bar.

Today, Hair Union is consistently the busiest salon on Union Road… and I like to think my interiors play a part there.

A great kitchen renovation always starts with looking at layout.

Bowen House had a dated kitchen with a floor plan that needed a serious rethink.

The oven and pantry doors were constantly fighting it out in the corner, and there was limited storage and bench space for a family of four.

I reworked the layout to solve for this while creating a much-wanted island bench with seating. Integrated appliances keep things calm and uncluttered, and cabinetry running all the way to the ceiling is an instant upgrade.

Something a little different from me today… I recently got to spend some time talking integrated appliances with Fisher & Paykel.

The right appliances, laid out thoughtfully, do so much more than just create a practical and functional space. The kitchen is the heart of the home - so it makes sense that the appliances should pull their weight functionally, but also speak to the overall design language of the space.

Custom cabinetry is never a bad idea.

At Bloomfield House, the under-stairs space was an untidy drop zone, with shoes, bags and umbrellas always on display. I designed some tall cabinetry to house coats, sports/gym gear and grab-and-go items, and a bench topped with stone with drawers for shoe storage. Now the space is sleek, organised, and feels much larger.

To create the arched bar cabinet, we ripped out a cupboard that was just collecting junk and replaced it with something beautiful, useful, and a whole lot fancier. A stone benchtop, splashback and shelves will be installed this week - can’t wait!

When the design direction is clear and the initial concept is strong, nothing much needs to change. At Bowen House, the palette and key pieces were all locked in early.

The one upgrade was the lamp — it added soft layered light and just the right touch of playfulness to this family living room.

This dining space was cramped, visually heavy and not really working for a family of four.

The table was pushed hard against the wall, with bench seats doing their best… but the layout needed a proper rethink.

I designed a custom corner banquette to make better use of the space, creating practical seating that looked good while turning the dining area into something more considered and resolved.

The render was the roadmap. The real thing is better… as it should be.
