Kayleen West is a fine artist who paints on canvas and created bespoke furniture and décor. Her art hangs in private and corporate collections internationally. Her studio showroom, PLAYfessional Creative Studio in the beautiful Yarra Valley, Victoria. Kayleen advocates for Australian business and manufacturing as a Brand Ambassador and retailer for Artisan Paint Company. At the easel Kayleen prefers to be painting portraits or faith-inspired art. In the workshop she paints furniture and décor and mentors’ other creatives in their personal projects. Her heart's is to paint images the empower and encourage others, while supporting other creatives. Thank you to those who climbed the stairs to watch my charcoal demonstration. Feedback tells me some of you are itching to play with charcoal now! The fair is on this weekend, with more demonstrations from Ringwood Art Society artists and much more. I have two pastel paintings in the exhibition too.

🎨✨ FREE CHARCOAL DEMONSTRATION AT MAROONDAH ART FAIR! ✨🎨

Hi all! I’ll be guest demonstrator 12 Noon - 2PM on the main stage Saturday 17th October I will be working in beautiful charcoal. A pastel demonstration by the fabulous artist, Barbara McManus will be on offer earlier that morning.

Join us, Ringwood Art Society and Ringwood Secondary College on Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 October for an incredible weekend celebrating local art, creativity and community! ❤️

It’s a new season and I woke speaking only good things into the future! This week marks the end of a very productive 12 months with the PSVA. I’m so thankful for the volunteers who worked well together, respected personal and professional boundaries, and understood that we are all volunteers doing our best. The president’s role was a first for me and this year was quite a revamp and catch up! I reluctantly took it on feeling completely unqualified but value what I have learned and the beautiful friends who appreciated my efforts. I particularly appreciate the messages I have received since retiring from members who I didn’t even realise I had encouraged to be more excited about their art!

In any community there are those who want to lead and those who want to serve. I did my best to be the later, even when my position held me responsible for the former. I am so proud of the amount of work WE achieved together despite some pretty challenging situations with health and personal losses — of which I had my fair share.

The PSVA is a wonderful society I pray will continue to thrive. My prayer for the new community is to be a family with a heart to serve in humility. Committees thrive when volunteers join for service not status. They are currently looking for a President who can do just that. If that’s you reach out. I will be happy to walk you through your new role.

Today as I finalise administrative tasks, I’m looking forward to using what I have learned to double down in my studio and connect more with those who welcome me into their world. I’m currently developing my website and want to share my art journey more privately and freely via an email group, and less on socials. You can follow along with other benefits via my home page at kayleenwest.com.au This is particularly interesting for collectors and to follow a new series of work.

Thrilled to be voted 2nd Place in the Pastel Society of Victoria Australia’s MEA awards for September. There are six levels of which we entered anonymously. I entered the highest level ‘Expert’. I am always delighted when my piers select my work as their favourite but always challenged to improve more. All the work throughout the levels are of a high standard. We have some amazing talent in our society! Congratulations to ALL the winners and entrants that put their best foot forward each month.

And that’s a wrap! Oils, Acrylics, Pastels and drawing from life every day for the month of September, thanks to the challenge. It’s not easy fitting it in amongst other projects and commitments but always satisfying to resist quitting, to see it through. I hate to quit in anything I commit to.

Congratulations and shoutout to the 735 who completed this challenge. Remember there was approximately double that who signed up. You can do the hard things and have a ton of work to show for it.

Pastel painting at Schwerkolt Cottage for Day 29/30 challenge. I managed to grab an opportunity to add the perfect figure who happened to cross my scene. Wisteria is tricky to capture but beautiful when you do. What a romantic place to spend the morning and share with you.

“Summer Shade” original pastel by Kayleen West  now showing in the Ringwood Art Society “Whatever the Weather” exhibition to the Lifestyle Corridor Gallery at Maroondah Federation Estate in Ringwood. 14th September to 14 December 2026

For the “Whatever the Weather” exhibition, members were asked to dive into an exploration of the weather and the way it impacts/influences us.
