I’m obsessed with these muted earthy tones

If you’ve always wanted a piece of wildlife art but the traditional, intense and harsh aesthetic doesn’t suit your space - I totally get it

My art invites warm, emotional connection to the subject

I’ve had so many people DM me, telling me stories about their life, of people they love, grievances and heartache that my art reminded them of

It always blows my mind how one piece of art can be perceived in so many different, heavy, wonderful, joyful ways

Creating them is my way of showing you the world through my eyes, so when I receive these stories I feel like we’re one in the same

Okay I wasn’t going to do this bc I was supposed to be focusing on my collection buuuut I’ve had so many messages and I love you guys so🙂‍↕️

I’m opening 2 commission spots - that’s it !

Let me be real with you, these aren’t quick pieces, they take me a lot of time, love, care and back ache to complete so I only accept very limited orders so that I can focus completely on each piece

Getting some last shots with this commission before he’s varnished and sent off to his forever home in Tasmania 🐅

If you missed it - the bottom painting is my first ever large oil painting from 2 years ago, I had a collector reach out to buy it but it’s very sentimental to me so we decided on me recreating it for her!
Win-win, she gets 2 more years of painting practice and I get to keep my first ever oil painting. I know it’s definitely not as good, but I’ll only ever have one first and I’d like to keep it forever 🤍

Also would you believe out of all the tigers I paint - this is the first one I’ve ever sold! 😂

‘Tiger Study: Brothers’ oil on 25 x 30cm canvas panel

The first piece in my wildlife study collection is complete!
I’m using this collection as a way to hyperfocus on specific techniques in each painting

The focus of this piece was subject interaction and storytelling

I really wanted to capture that loving nudge between two young brothers, a moment of warm connection before they’re soon to be (without prior knowledge) sent off into the world to fight for their own piece of territory and continue growing back the endangered species

I feel like we can all resonate with the warm glow that a gentle nudge from a loved one gives us 🐅 🤍

That’s why I wanted to bring a lot more warmth and light into this piece than the original reference photo provided 🌞

Okay so a LOT of you have been asking about colour theory so let’s start this series off with chroma!!

tbh this is one of those things that completely changed how I paint

I used to think I needed to add more colour to make things pop but I was actually doing the opposite

I was overmixing, using black, adding too much and had waaaaay too many colours on my palette
and wondering why everything looked dull

Understanding chroma is what makes your colours feel alive, once it clicks, you can’t unsee it!! 🥳

Sometimes your painting ends up nothing like the reference photo

And that’s actually a good thing!

When you’re painting, you’re not copying a photograph, you’re interpreting it! YOUR WAY
Colours shift, shapes simplify, light changes, and suddenly the painting starts becoming its own thing

This little elk ended up way looser and more colourful than the reference and I like it more for it.

Curious - do your paintings usually end up looking like your reference, or do they take on a life of their own? 💫

Okay listennnnn

I can’t tell you how excited I am to start these!! But I’m not allowed to touch them until my commissions are finished okay? If you see me painting them before then you have full permission to throw my biscuits in the bin

This study group is going to be focusing on shapes and values - a lot like my previous elk study
Goals:
✨ Finish the painting with as little marks as possible
✨ Push values
✨ Experiment with different textures to imply details

I will be updating you on this whether you like it or not okay byeeeee
