For most small businesses I know, once they get their paycheck they go straight to the material supply store and invest in more materials or equipment for their work so they are ready for the next market or sale - and by “paycheck” I mean their market income. (I really shouldn’t have used the word paycheck because that implies that it’s something that comes predictably and regularly. For some, markets only happen 2 to 3 times a year, but for most, markets can be very unpredictable so “paychecks” can vary drastically.)

Wow Handmade Market Canberra! Just wow! I underestimated how much you love my butter bells!! Why did I do that!?! I sold out of all of them bar my display one (I think you were all too polite to ask me to take the butter out!).
Driving up to ACT was easy, the sun was shining, the flowers were out and the company was second to none! Jess Mo and Nik (my cousins) are THE most supportive and biggest rays of sunshine a girl like me could ask for!
I arrived Canberra with a car stacked to the brim, and left Canberra with a 1/2 full load- Things were rattling around on the way back! You really showed me the love, and it was absolutely my pleasure to meet you all.
Thanks to Handmade Market Canberra for a dazzling weekend.
After the market packdown I went to my cousins house and Ed had made me the most succulent pork knuckle that I absolutely devoured. And sorry Deepak Singh but I think his potatoes give you a run for your money!
I got home last night and fell in a heap! A big, old, happy heap!
All I can say is lucky I have already got some butter bells in the making in the studio- I’m gonna need them for the 2 markets next month.

Well Canberra, you have certainly showed up for me today. I made so many new friends today, and met up with lots of familiar faces. These are just a few of my best sellers from the day: small grey speckle butter bells, the yellow ones were a fan favourite, I bought some new bowls that are nearly all gone, oil pourers that just feel good in your hand, these tumblers with pink, blue and green glaze mix that is just doing its own wonderful thing. Last but not least, the garlic graters (with added herb st****er holes!!! Whaaaa!!) and the new mugs that feel oh- so - great in your hands.
And guess what, it’s all on again tomorrow Handmade Market Canberra at EPIC. If you get in early, you might snaffle up one of these handmade goodies. Just for you and your hands! You totally deserve it.

Letting go. Ceramics has taught me a lot about letting go. And believe me, I have learned to deal with the heartbreak and in more ways than I’d like, it has become part of the process. Similarly, but much more gentle way, yoga offers me a chance to let go too.
I’ve been practicing yoga for about 15 years and every time I practice, I learn more about myself. I’m often laying in the last pose of my yin class and think about clay. I’m often teaching a wheel throwing class and hear myself telling my students find their core strength, breathe and stay present.
Niki and I have something special planned tomorrow evening SOULution Yoga and if you’re in ACT you should join us. Niki will take us thru some yoga and after I’ll take you through a simple handbuilding technique with clay. No experience for either is necessary. It’s all about letting go of expectations. Just the other day, I had a student pay for her classes. That very afternoon I rang my kids, music teacher, and told her “send me the invoice I can pay for my kids classes!” The money went through my hands, literally the same day. And not only did that one class support two artists to continue to do their work, it also inspired my children to learn music. I can’t think of anything more rewarding than that. And it got me thinking, I wonder what their music teacher is gonna spend that money on? So I had this conversation about money changing hands with the music teacher, and she mentioned that she needed to get some plumbing work done on her house. And again, I can’t imagine anything more rewarding than supporting an artist to support her own family in their own family home. This is . We can create a circular economy if we tried.

I’m starting with small bowls and plates in pink, blue and everyone’s favorite- reactive green. This every-day range is all dishwasher and microwave safe (of course!). Father’s Day can be a weird one for some. I never celebrated it much as a kid, as unfortunately, my father was mostly absent. But I count my lucky stars that I have found a wonderful father for my own children.

If you ever came to a market when I was just starting out, you would have met Deepak. He doesn’t know I am writing this, but if he did he’d probably laugh, because that is the kind of light he offers the world.
And without going totally over board (and believe me, I could go on and on) I couldn’t have imagined a better dad for my kids than him. Not just because he is a wonderful human being, inside and out, he has supported my small business from day dot. He thinks everything I make is wonderful - So I put together a few of his favourites in the Father’s Day Edit.

This is my most loathsome task, sanding bottoms. And not because it is hard but because I can’t be bothered and it takes ages. However, as a one woman show there is no one else to do it but me so here we are. Why not make it fun? And why not have a laugh on me this Friday afternoon?
