Couldn’t help getting out the camera this morning to capture my morning rituals. Looking out the windows to our amazing vast expanse of sky, 150 year old walnut tree and green green hills, all while a tea or coffee brews. This mornings sky was such a vibrant blue and the sun so warm. Moments of calm before the day begins.

Moving on to the bathrooms in our Mid-Century Renovation and Restoration project, we drew inspiration from the original 1960s layout and colour palette — particularly a found sample of the blue mosaic tiles that once lined the shower.

The ensuite originally lacked a toilet, so to make the most of the compact footprint, we lifted the vanity storage off the floor and integrated it into an overhead cabinet with a floating basin. The framed shower screen and door were removed in favour of a simple curtain and low floor lip, creating a greater sense of openness and ease of movement.

One of the guiding ambitions for this Mid Century renovation was to improve the transfer of natural light throughout the interiors, achieving a brighter and more connected feel without resorting to a completely open-plan configuration.

A large-scale sliding door - complete with a faithfully replicated exposed bulkhead - replaces the original solid wall and narrow kitchen entry, improving visual connection and light flow while remaining true to the homes Mid Century character.

Continuing on the tour through our 1960’s country restoration and renovation.

The laundry is a key access point to the agricultural landscape surrounding and one that gets a lot of thoroughfare.

A room that can be both functional and a joy to be in - where one can trim cut flowers from the garden or wash freshly picked veggies. The cabinetry drawers from the existing timbers through out the house and the blue floors are an ode to the original wet area tiles.

This project was all about reuse, restore and if replacing - then reference. Originally pinned for a big box reno on the back I instead reworked the existing floorplan to gain better flow, light and connection between the 1960 spaces.

A holiday house that has been and will be passed from generation to generation it’s an ode to its history but with those modern comforts.
