Project: Cliffside Retreat, Scotland

~The wild Atlantic landscape~

Perched along the rugged cliffs of Scotland’s Western Isles, this residence forms a quiet yet powerful dialogue between architecture and the wild Atlantic landscape.

The design extends horizontally along the windswept ridgeline, its low, linear profile echoing the vast horizon and dramatic coastline. Expansive glazing frames uninterrupted views of rolling seas, jagged rock formations, and ever-changing skies, dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior.

The material palette is grounded and elemental - locally sourced stone anchors the structure into the cliff, while muted timber interiors introduce warmth against the raw, exposed environment. Deep overhangs and recessed openings respond to the harsh coastal climate, offering shelter from wind and rain while capturing fleeting moments of sunlight.

The building sits deliberately low, reducing visual impact and allowing the landscape to dominate. Inside, spaces are calm and introspective, designed for immersion in nature. Open living areas extend toward the edge, creating a sensation of hovering above the ocean.

This is not simply a remote dwelling, but a contemplative refuge, shaped by isolation, weather, and the enduring presence of the sea.

Project: Rural Circular Residence - Rothbury, NSW

Located in the rolling vineyard landscape of Rothbury, NSW, this striking circular residence is a contemporary interpretation of rural Australian architecture, designed to sit quietly within the Hunter Valley’s open terrain. The home’s defining form is a sweeping ring-shaped plan that encloses a protected central courtyard, creating a sense of retreat while maintaining strong visual connections to the surrounding countryside.

The architecture is grounded in natural materials, timber battens, stone bases, and a low-profile metal roof, allowing the building to blend seamlessly with Rothbury’s pastoral character. Floor-to-ceiling glazing opens the interior spaces toward the courtyard and distant vineyard views, bringing abundant daylight into the home while framing the landscape as part of the experience.

At the heart of the design, a long reflecting pool and lawn anchor the courtyard, offering a calm oasis suited to Rothbury’s warm climate. The circular geometry also provides privacy and shelter from winds, creating outdoor living zones that can be enjoyed year-round. This residence reflects the refined yet relaxed lifestyle of Rothbury, combining sculptural modernism with the region’s agricultural setting. New Project: Hotel Cremorne, Victoria.
"Historic brick reimagined to blend light, texture, modernity."

The architecture aspires to create more than just a building - it aims to craft a meaningful connection between time, place, and material. By thoughtfully interweaving Cremorne’s layered industrial history with a forward-looking architectural language, the design forms a compelling dialogue between heritage and innovation. Central to this narrative is the use of terracotta brick, a material deeply rooted in the fabric of the neighbourhood, commonly seen in the area’s early homes, laneways, and converted warehouses.

Rather than replicating the past, the design reinterprets brick in a contemporary context, exploring its potential beyond structural utility. Used as a permeable skin, the brick façade becomes an expressive element - filtering dappled daylight into interior spaces, animating the building’s surface throughout the day, and evoking a sense of warmth and tactility. This approach not only enhances transparency and lightness but also acknowledges Cremorne’s evolving identity, where the memory of place is carried forward through thoughtful material expression and crafted detail.
