This Vintage Persian Bakhtiari circa 1960s -1980s was hand-knotted in Iran's Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province with wool pile on a cotton foundation.
The signature Bakhtiari design is the Khesti, a garden panel pattern where the field is divided into compartments, each containing its own motif. Cypress trees, flowering plants, birds, the tree of life. The paired lion figures, "shir" in Persian, a symbol of strength, courage, and protection that the Bakhtiari tribes have been weaving into their rugs for generations.
The colours have already settled with age. This one is ready for its next chapter in your home.
