At its centre, a remarkable Australian Coober Pedy opal glows with shifting flashes of colour, framed by 40 old-cut diamonds and set in 18ct gold and platinum. Dating to circa 1900, this beautifully detailed French ring brings together the vivid character of Australian opal with the romance of antique French craftsmanship.

For October, the opal’s story feels especially fitting — a birthstone prized for its colour, individuality and sense of mystery. From the Australian earth to a French jeweller’s bench, and now into the Chilton’s collection, this is a piece that carries more than a century of history with it.
