Santai Pottery & Art Studio is looking for a new Studio Gnome - aka Pottery Teacher & Studio Assistant 🌿

We’re looking for someone warm, reliable and creative to join our small community pottery studio in Mitchelton.

The role will initially involve teaching beginner-friendly pottery classes, Clay & Sip sessions, private events, kids/teens classes, and assisting with some general studio work. Some weekend availability is needed.

Experience teaching pottery would be ideal, but we’re also open to someone earlier in their clay journey if they are the right fit and keen to learn. You’ll need to be comfortable with beginner handbuilding and wheel techniques, and enjoy working with adults, teens and kids.

This will initially be a casual contractor role, with potential to grow into more teaching hours and studio assistant manager responsibilities over time. ABN and insurance required.

We’re a tiny, welcoming studio with an “art as therapy” philosophy, and we’re looking for someone who genuinely loves clay and wants to share that love with the world!

Our All Ages Clay Classes are a relaxed, hands-on activity for parents, kids, siblings, cousins, grandparents or friends to enjoy together 🥰

It’s creative, screen-free, a little bit messy (but not too messy), and a nice way to spend time together where grown ups and younger ones all get to enjoy themselves!

Come along and make something special in our cosy Mitchelton studio.

Join us at our Mitchelton Studio for Little Treasures, a pottery workshop for lovers of detail, texture, and finely crafted objects ✨

Local artist Gabrielle Vines will guide you through the quiet precision of handbuilt ceramics in this intimate three-hour class focused on creating delicate functional forms by hand.

Using pinching and refining techniques, you’ll learn how to build smooth, even walls, soften surfaces, and shape elegant small-scale pieces such as ring dishes, jewellery trays, incense holders, and sculptural objects. Gabbi will also introduce sgraffito - carving through layers of underglaze to reveal the clay beneath - allowing for intricate, relief-like surface designs.

This is a calm and thoughtful, process-focused workshop suited to complete beginners as well as those wanting to refine their handbuilding skills and explore decorative surface techniques in more depth.

Your work will be glazed and fired by the studio, ready for collection in approximately four weeks.

Join us at our Mitchelton Studio for a slow afternoon of clay, good company, and a drink or two - if you like! 🥂

Ceramicist and artist Gabrielle Vines invites you to a relaxed three-hour handbuilding workshop exploring small functional and sculptural forms. Think ring dishes, jewellery trays, incense holders, tiny shelves, or whatever else takes shape in your hands!

This class is about slowing down and making something personal. You’ll learn pinching, smoothing and carving techniques, experiment with underglaze colours and sgraffito decoration, and finish at least two pieces - ready for firing by our studio.

No experience needed - just come ready to make, chat, and get into the creative flow.

New Specialty Class! The Art of Pinch Pottery
with Gabrielle Vines 💚 April 11 | 2-5pm

Join local artist and ceramicist Gabrielle Vines for a three-hour deep dive into delicate, hand-built pottery.

You’ll create one or two pieces of your own design while learning how to pinch even, refined walls, smooth and shape fine forms with simple tools, and carve intricate designs through underglaze.

Expect organic forms, earthy textures and detailed surface decoration.

Term 1 Potters Apprentice Course Starts Feb 6th. This is an 8 week program, running every Friday (3.45-5.45pm)

The course is for teens (ages 12-18) and aims to help young artists develop their own unique creative style in a fun and casual environment.

Includes clay handbuilding and wheel throwing! No experience needed. Very flexible and welcoming to all. Run by young local artist Denya Hunt. More info here:
