Just arrived from Italy — our new handmade marbled paper lampshades.

Beautifully marbled, wonderfully individual and, frankly, far too good for a boring lamp.

Each is made using traditional marbled papers, meaning no two are quite alike. They’re particularly handsome on brass, ceramic and classical bases — though we’re not inclined to make too many rules about these things.

A little colour, a little pattern, and suddenly that lamp you’ve been meaning to do something about looks rather marvellous.

A rather handsome pair of French-style bergère armchairs, with beautifully shaped frames, sweeping arms and wonderfully generous proportions.

Upholstered in a soft pale neutral that allows the rich timber frames to do the talking, they are elegant enough for a formal sitting room but comfortable enough to actually live with. We rather like them with an unexpected cushion or two — though they are quite capable of holding their own without.

A little brass, a little starlight — and considerably more atmosphere.

A handsome pair of brass candlestick lamps, classically proportioned and topped with whimsical star-strewn shades. Each is finished with a charming brass pineapple finial — the traditional symbol of hospitality, and a particularly handsome detail.

Elegant enough for a formal room, but with just enough wit to keep things interesting. Perfect on a console, either side of a bed, or wherever a little evening glamour is required.

A little Wedgwood drama — considerably more exciting than yet another vase.

The Wedgwood Tiger & Buck, a wonderfully sculptural piece capturing a tiger in pursuit of a rather unfortunate buck. Beautifully modelled, decidedly dramatic and just eccentric enough to command attention on a console, mantel or amongst a collection of books and objects.

Some chairs are for sitting. Others rather set the tone.

A superb pair of Thomas Hamel armchairs, with an elegant form very much in the spirit of William Yeoward’s distinctive English decorating style.

Upholstered in wonderfully rich chocolate velvet, they’re generous, beautifully proportioned and just louche enough — the sort of chairs that make one reconsider leaving the drawing room.

A handsome Dutch-style marquetry centre table, richly inlaid with scrolling foliage and floral motifs in contrasting timbers.

The beautifully figured circular top sits above an architectural pedestal base, the extensive marquetry giving the piece the decorative richness associated with Dutch and Northern European furniture.

Generous in scale and with considerable presence, it would make a superb centre table in an entrance hall, library or layered sitting room.

New from Florence 🇮🇹 — because apparently Italy needed another reason to be irresistible.

Our latest collection of handmade Florentine shield shades, designed by Martin on his recent sourcing trip through Italy.

At 20cm diameter, they’re particularly good on smaller lamp bases, bedside lamps and those awkward little corners where a conventional shade simply feels too much.

Marbled papers, botanical prints, antique books and hot-air balloons — each chosen to add that particular Italian knack for making the decorative look entirely effortless.
