Have you tried Craft Room Accounting?
Time works differently in a craft room.

“Earlier today” is basically “I’ve had it for a while.”

Yesterday is “I’ve had that ages.”

Last week is “That old thing?”

And anything bought more than a month ago is now a treasured family heirloom.

It’s not lying. It’s a perfectly legitimate accounting system based on how quickly the evidence can be removed from the shopping bag.

Besides, once the packaging is opened and it’s been put in a drawer, there is absolutely no way to establish a reliable purchase date. Case closed.

Now, would anyone like to see the stamps I’ve had forever? They arrived at 10:30 this morning.

Distress Ink vs Distress Oxide…

They have the same colours.
They have almost the same name.
They sit next to each other on the shelf looking suspiciously similar.

But are they the same?

Oh no. They have very different personalities.

DISTRESS INK is the bright, vibrant one. It’s dye-based, more transparent and loves soaking into your cardstock. Blend it, stamp it, spritz it, watercolour with it — it’s fabulous when you want those gorgeous clear layers of colour.

DISTRESS OXIDE is its creamy, slightly dramatic cousin. With both dye and pigment properties, it’s more opaque, blends like a dream and lets you layer lighter colours over darker ones. Add a little water and that fabulous oxidised effect starts doing its thing.

So which one do you need? Well…

Distress Ink = transparent, vibrant and beautifully inky.
Distress Oxide = creamy, opaque and ridiculously blendable.

Both are water-reactive.
Both are brilliant for cardmaking.
Both come in that wonderful Distress colour palette.

And both have a remarkable ability to make you wonder how one ink pad somehow became 27 ink pads.

Paperologiest - it's a highly specialised field.

A Paperologist understands that there are three categories of paper:
Paper you can use.
Paper you’re saving for the right project.
And paper that is FAR too beautiful to use and must be protected at all costs.

We don’t hoard paper, We curate it. We organise it by colour, collection and level of emotional attachment. We buy duplicates because “this one is for using and this one is for keeping.” And every now and then, we pull out a sheet we’ve been saving for six years, admire it lovingly…and put it straight back.

Because today is clearly NOT the day.

Paperologist - It’s not a problem, it’s practically a qualification.

COPIC CIAO – our favourite
Smaller, lighter and less expensive, with the same Flexible Brush and Medium Broad nibs. They hold a little less ink and come in fewer colours, but give you the same beautiful Copic blending.

And yes — you can absolutely mix Sketch and Ciao! We do. They use the same Copic ink system, so your colouring won't know the difference.

Our summary?

Sketch = more colours, more ink, bigger collection.
Ciao = smaller, more economical, same beautiful blending.

It’s beginning to look a LOT like Christmas at Michelle’s Cards & Stamps!

Our favourite classes of the year are about to begin, and the craft room is officially heading into full festive mode. Think Christmas colours, beautiful florals, gorgeous dies, a little sparkle and plenty of reasons to ignore the housework and make Christmas cards instead.

Our October Card Classes start this week, and we have put together a bright and festive collection featuring fabulous products from Altenew, Penny Black and Pinkfresh Studio.

We’ve got Christmas cards to make, techniques to try and plenty of inspiration to get those festive creative juices flowing.

Hello Crafty Friends!
Over the weekend, we had the pleasure of joining Alison’s Craft Events – Junk Journal Joy Day, where we taught alongside four other fabulous teachers.

We were all given the same Arden Creative Studio – Vintage Makers collection of papers and ephemera to work with, and that was part of the fun! It was fantastic to see how five different teachers could take the same collection and create five completely different projects. There’s nothing quite like seeing where everyone’s creativity takes them.

A huge shout-out to our fellow teachers Fiona from Fi’s Scrapbooking & Craft Supplies, Crece from 2 Bluebirds, Karenina from A Place to Create, and Jenny Heaslip. It was such a lovely group to teach alongside.

Of course, we couldn’t resist adding a little MC&S twist to our project… there was a Pop-Up hiding inside! Because why make a card sit still when you can make it pop?

Here are a few photos from the day, along with our project.

We hope everyone who joined us had a fabulous time, enjoyed all five classes and headed home with plenty of new ideas and inspiration to keep the creativity flowing.
