We have brought masonry heaters to Australian homes for the first time. Minimal emissions and almost total combustion of the timber fuel makes them the most environmentally friendly and efficient form of home heating available. Add to that the architectural feature that they form in a home and the lovely radiant heat emitted by them and you wouldn't want to go back to anything else once you have experienced them.

Our routine is usually burn the masonry heater and sit in front of it after dinner (guess what we are doing g now 😀); then after breakfast the followi g morning put in a slow cook and pull out for dinner; and if I have food to dry, pop it in the next day (36 - 48 hours after a burn) and leave for 12 hours to dry. Just did saffron milk cap mushrooms (second from left). Then, start the cycle again.

Over the last month we have been enjoying slow cooks from our masonry heater each time we use it. Our routine: light the heater at about 6pm, sit in front of it after dinner, all done by 9pm. Then in the morning, the house is still 20 - 21 degrees. In goes a slow cook. Come in for dinner, and it's all done. And ... our home is still toasty because the heater has kept on releasing all that stored heat. PERFECT

Christmas eve and our masonry heater is going. It will finish by the time we are home from carols and then we will close it up. Around 5am, we will put the turkey on to slow cook for lunch.
