It’s not just about a blanket and making the yarn stash useful. It is the sense of community. An outreach to those who need to know they aren’t alone. To think about other people and have people know they are not forgotten.

Celebrate Worldwide Knit in Public Day with Us!

This Saturday 13th June, we're throwing open the doors at Create Do & Mend to celebrate Worldwide Knit in Public Day – and we'd love you to join us between 10am & 12pm

Whether you're knitting a jumper, crocheting a blanket, learning something new, or just trying to finish that project that's been sitting in your bag for months... bring it along!

We're also excited to officially launch our 2026–27 Knit For Your Neighbour project, a community initiative that brings warmth, kindness and connection to those who need it most.
Throughout the year we'll be collecting handmade beanies, scarves, gloves and socks, along with donations of wool and yarn, ready to be gifted to local people next winter.

Never knitted before? That's okay too! Come along, meet The Knitwits and see what we're all about. Everyone is welcome.

Together, we can create more than warm clothing—we can create community.

Next Saturday (13 June) is Worldwide Knit in Public Day!

I tend to encourage knitting anytime, anywhere. But any excuse to knit with our community is fine by me!

Come join us! A big group of us are meeting at Smolt Kitchen (107 Hill St, West Hobart) from 2-4pm, 13 June. All are welcome!

There’s no ticket fee, but please register on our website so I can let the venue know how many of us there’ll be 👫

Works in progress! Some commissioned alpaca ready to turn into a garment.

These 5 fat skeins are 1.5kg worth of yarn. The client and I sorted through a couple of big bales of mixed alpaca fleece, then it was picked, scoured, air dried, carded, hand spun and plyed.

I’m sure someone will be very pleased to create something knowing the animals, and that the process was focused in on the central highlands and derwent valley region.

How nicely spun is this alpaca!

Sent through from a client, from a recent fleece commission. The client received roving from myself and he’s turned it into some perfect yarn! Such a beautiful soft colour, and I know it’ll make the most glorious garment.

Thank you for allowing me to share!
