Pappa Sven

Pappa Sven Welcome to Pappa Sven, an authentic Nordic homewares store located in Newcastle, NSW and online at p

Pappa Sven is a Scandinavian homewares store, located in the beautiful city of Newcastle, Australia. I fell in love with EVERYTHING about Scandinavia during a recent 10 month experience living in Skelleftea, in the very North of Sweden, and am passionate about bringing a small piece of this back to Australia. This experience, combined with my Textile Science degree and a long love of natural fibres and fabrics seems like the perfect combination for starting Pappa Sven.

Our Fjällräven cycling collection has arrived at Pappa Sven just in time for Fathers Day! We were so inspired by all the bike packers we met cycling around Norway, but the biggest lesson we learnt is that you need the right gear (the last pic shows what not to do …) , and who better to make it than the Swedish outdoor champions at Fjällräven. Who is up for an adventure?

It is always so special to meet our Nordic suppliers, but even more special to meet the actual makers. Iris hantverk employ visually impaired craftsmen who hand make the brushware according to traditional Swedish methods. What an incredible job, using natural materials and such amazing precision and care. When scrolling through the photos from our opening I realised we have been stocking this beautiful brushware since we opened in 2014. I have always loved these products, but now having watched the brushware being made, I have a whole new level of appreciation for the work, love and tradition that goes into every brush! Oh and I have to say, their shop in Kungsgatan would have to be my favourite shop in Stockholm!

I picked up this book by Swedish author lisa at Stockholm Airport and finished it as I landed in Sydney. Such a beautifully written, wonderful story that I immediately ordered it for Pappa Sven and is available now on pre-order. The story of an elderly man, living in a small rural village in the north of Sweden as he tries to hold onto his independence. It comes with a warning, I cried the whole way through it, but loved the incredible insight into life, love and ageing.

An absolute Stockholm highlight was finally visiting Stiftelsen Rosendals Trädgård in the very middle of Djurgården. The most beautiful flower & vegetable gardens, gorgeous garden shop & a traditional Swedish style cafe where you can eat your lunch under the fruit trees in the orchard. It was all my Swedish dreams wrapped up in one little package!

Of course we love to grow beautiful plants in our Bergs Potter potting shed, but we are especially excited to announce the first birth in our Pappa Sven potting shed! Helene is busy knitting a blanket & Rose will be fussing around her all day tomorrow, but what should we name her? She’s been born in nest made in the Copenhagen pot , so that surely has significance? We would love you to help us name her , please comment below with your suggestions!
