I have always enjoyed this scene and have painted several versions of it. This time I used my impressionist view of the water, which I think gives the scene colour and depth.

This is the largest canvas I have painted. 101.5cm x 101.5cm. based on a photograph by Chistina Port, photographer.
I am always looking for life-like birds with abstract colours that will light up and enhance most rooms. The photograph was taken on the Central Coast north of Sydney, where the largest collection of pelicans can be found.

The poor flying fish was given wings by nature and evolution so that they could escape the enemy below. Over the eons of time, the enemy above has also become a problem.
I enjoy using impressionism with the true-life birds and fish to show the deep blue sea and waves above. The red-footed b***y and flying fish use these two realms to their advantage.

The frigate is pushing its luck. Neither will let go. If the pelican can use its weight to pull the frigate down to the water, then the pelican is the winner. I admire both these birds.

I named this painting "The Stealer". Frigate birds cannot dive the way B***y birds do and hardly ever land on water, their chances of being able to take off again are slim. They survive by stealing and hunting for other fish, such as flying fish. They can outfly most other birds.

I was inspired to do this painting by the way pelicans feed their young, by the chicks putting their heads into the parent's mouth to such an extent that it can hardly be seen I regularly show the background to include the open sea with a small sailboat on the horizon, representing our amazing life.
To show how my painting looks on a wall, forgive me for showing it between our two Lars Knudson originals. (As shown on the bluethumb site above). Although my painting is in a totally different league to the Knudson’s. But I do consider it shows how my painting will look.

This scene is a flock of American white Pelicans taking off, again this is painted using acrylics on canvas 40"x 30" and is framed. There are 7 different varieties of pelicans in the world and the American white is one of them.

I've been painting for over thirty years, but only recently have I decided to sell my work. The main reason for this if I put more effort and attention into the paintings I will get more enjoyment and pleasure from my work and hopefully so will those who may buy my paintings. They will all be on canvas mainly 40"x30" and all will be framed.
My interest in birds especially seabirds was gained when Jan and I chartered the east coast of Australia and the islands of the Western Pacific. The first work I am posting is "Pelican Family".
