In June this year, we joined Pip Sharp Vemi Design & Construction, Christina Elvin polytec, and Robyn Hawke in an important discussion on How Design Drives Commercial Value, moderated by Joel Sampson Unispace at the Design Show in June.

SO chuffed to our little Plume Café café buzzing with good vibes at the beautiful St George hospital by Jacobs.

We put on our favourite t-shirts and grabbed a meal while scoping the site for exciting new collaborations with LifeGrain. Keep an eye out for this one—more details to come.

House hunting is often a grind, so we designed the Inspiration Centre to feel like the opposite. Instead of the typical, rushed garage-office setup, we created a space where visitors can actually slow down and explore the brand’s offerings.

The path to purchase is a carefully orchestrated journey built right into the footprint of a future home, complete with a granny flat and outdoor area.

A café, kids’ play area (so parents get a breather), formal and informal sales offices, and an interactive digital theatre where visitors can explore floorplans and finishes at their own pace all become important touch points in this journey.

The fact that it will eventually convert into a family home brings the whole concept full circle. Thanks to on brand and visual design, on the tech, and on furniture, all working with Mojo Homes to deliver this joyful outcome.

Palm & Lime is a fresh Asian-fusion kiosk inside Sydney’s Westfield Warringah Mall and it’s the very first business its owners have opened here in Australia. This project was as much about holding hands through the process as it was about design: budgets, builders, approvals.

Our concept was to bring a sense of place into a compact grab-and-go footprint, without leaning on loud graphics or digital media to do the talking. Instead, we focused on materials—specifically ceramic tiling—to create an architectural language: warm terracotta, graduated green tiles that nod to fresh produce, and a custom botanical pattern referencing tropical foliage synonymous with Southeast Asia. The counters are curved intentionally, easing customer flow and softening a small space.

Currently in the running for the BETTER FUTURE Awards, this was a great collaboration with our mates at Addition Projects on the build, and Academy Tiles on the tiling that ties it all together.

Old walls, new life.

For The Boatshed La Perouse, we restored a former boat shed by the bay, drawing on its rich maritime past to shape a relaxed, coastal dining experience. Inside and out, the project is a considered nod to the building’s history, designed to feel effortless, for a family-run business serving up fresh seafood with a view.

Taking a walk down memory lane with The Grocer’s Pantry—one of our early boutique greengrocer projects. We teamed up with Top Juice to bring the eat-in grocer’s concept into a shopping centre, celebrating the love of fresh and organic produce and an earth-to-table food experience in a retail environment.

The design drew from the simplicity and charm of a European deli, creating a welcoming space with an intuitive layout, a distinctive brand identity, and a simple palette of wood, metal with accents of forest green tiling. The vibrant flowers and fresh fruit and veg in wicker baskets added a real sense of tactility to the space.

A top-tier collaboration with our friends at Born & Raised and Buterin L'Estrange Projects.

It’s been a bit quiet here on our Instagram, so here we are: a big hello to our friends from The Great Indoors! A lot of our best thinking happens away from a desk (most weekends, you’ll find us by the water, and it’s probably no coincidence that our love for the great outdoors is often what inspires our work and our passion at The Great Indoors.) 😄

Gesa and I prefer to keep a somewhat low profile, but we’ve decided it’s time to talk about our work with a little more intentionality.

The Great Indoors has been our labour of love for many years now, as we’ve built and nurtured our design studio here in Sydney, shaped as much by what we’ve unlearned as by what we set out knowing. Every single day, while not without its challenges, has been incredibly rewarding, and our life is richer because of it.

We’re grateful that in a world increasingly run by AI and automation, we still get to be hands-on and experimental with our projects, to think freely and stay original. These days we’re also discovering more sustainable principles and materials as part of our process, balancing our creativity with a bit more responsibility.

We are looking for an architectural designer with interior documentation skills for residential and hospitality projects. Candidates will preferably have sound CAD technical documentation skills with Vectorworks, Adobe, and hand-drawing sketching ability; sound professional communication; and understanding and experience in design management of projects, BCA/AS, and CDC/DA building approvals. This is an initial 3-month contract role, which may be extended for the right candidate.
