See historic machinery turning Australian wool into yarn, join a weekday tour, browse Australian yarn. Nundle Woollen Mill is one of the last spinning mills still operating in Australia. The Nundle Mill team use traditional spinning machinery, several pieces nearly 100 years old, to transform raw wool into famous Nundle knitting yarn in 8 ply, 12 ply & 20 ply. Australian Made, of course! Nundle Woollen Mill is a must-see attraction for travellers visiting Nundle. The mill attracts almost 30,000 visitors each year who see the antique machinery in work. Also available is a beautiful selection of hand knits and Australian designer wool fashion. The famous Nundle socks are hard to pass up! The wait is over. Two trailer loads of undyed yarn have just arrived at Nundle Woollen Mill, and right now we are quite literally up to our ears in boxes.

Looking for a family activity that’s creative, hands-on and a little different?

Take inspiration from Bec and her family at Bec 💛, who turned a visit to Nundle Woollen Mill into an extraordinary family felting project.

After learning how wool travels from fleece to yarn, they took natural wool tops home, dyed them in colours inspired by the Australian landscape, then worked together to create a felt map of Australia. Along the way came colour, geography, problem-solving, creativity and plenty of experimentation.

That’s what we love most about projects like this. Everyone can contribute, there’s no single “right” way to create, and you end up with something that carries a little piece of everyone who helped make it.

If you’ve never tried felting before, this could be the perfect place to start. Choose from our coloured wool tops and get creating straight away, or begin with natural undyed wool tops and make dyeing part of the adventure.

Gather the family. Choose an idea. Clear the table. See where your imagination takes you.
