Part of my job as an interior designer is knowing when to make a decision and when not to.

I don’t always come into a project at the very beginning and make every single selection. Sometimes decisions have already been made, or a particular element has already been chosen, and my role is to look at the bigger picture and make sure everything is working together.

That might mean reviewing finishes from room to room, making a small adjustment to something that’s already been selected, or adding a few considered points of interest so the spaces feel connected, but not too matchy.

And a big part of my role is collaboration. Working with the owners, the builder, the joiners and all of the trades involved to make sure the ideas translate beautifully from the plans into the finished space.

For me, good design isn’t about making every decision myself. It’s about knowing what the project needs, when it needs it, and bringing all of those pieces together in a way that feels considered and cohesive.

Proof of life - I am alive!

Somewhere between client meetings, site visits, measuring rooms, choosing tiles, chasing trades, creating renders, answering emails and attempting to keep the family alive… posting on social media has somehow fallen to the bottom of the list. Is this a surprise from me?…nah, not really.

But there is so much happening behind the scenes lately that never makes it here. The reality is, I’m not a natural content creator. I so often come back from a client meeting and have taken zero photos OR they are atrocious. I get caught up doing the actual thing rather than documenting it.

So consider this my reminder to myself (and maybe my apology to the algorithm) that I should probably share more of what happens behind the scenes. Because there is plenty happening… I’m just terrible at telling you about it.

Anyway, here’s me attempting to be better at posting… no promises, but I’ll try. 😉

Good design doesn’t just happen.

It starts with ideas, materials and mood boards.
Then comes the render stage and testing how everything works together visually and possible allocations. And finally, sourcing the real finishes that create the right look, feel and function, all within budget.

This is the part people don’t always see - but it’s where the magic is made.
