Estompe is a linen voile with its pattern woven into the cloth rather than printed on the surface. Light passes through the geometry rather than bouncing off it, so the colour shifts through the day instead of sitting flat against the glass.

Woven pattern also means nothing on the surface to crack, peel or fade, which counts on a curtain that gets the full afternoon sun.

It carries the Masters of Linen label, with Casamance controlling everything from growing the flax to weaving the cloth.

Shade that moves with the day, not against it.

The folding arm awning by Luxaflex extends at the press of a button, with no support beams or posts to break the line over a pool or alfresco area. Retract it fully once the sun drops and the space opens straight back up.

It sits alongside straight-drop shades as part of a full exterior range, quieter than our curtains and blinds but built with the same eye for detail, and worth a look if you didn't know we shaded the outside of a home as carefully as the inside.

Curtains, blinds, soft shades, awnings and skylight blinds can all be motorised and left to run to a schedule, so the house is shaded before the heat arrives and open again by morning.

Controlled by app, remote or voice, through Google Home, Apple HomeKit and Alexa. The motors are built in at the point of manufacture rather than retrofitted, which keeps them quiet and keeps them lasting.

Fine geometric lines, embroidered rather than printed.

Camengo's Bristopia collection takes its cues from murals and modern architecture, bold graphic lines softened by organic curves. The base cloth is a polyester-linen blend, embroidered in matte cotton thread with touches of lustrous thread worked through for contrast.

A sheer only comes alive once light moves through it.

Lightweight and softly draping, sheer curtains diffuse daylight rather than block it, softening a room without closing it in. Pair it with a blind or blockout curtain behind for privacy at night, or let it hang alone to catch the last of the afternoon light.
