𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗧 𝗕𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥 // “𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗹?” It’s one of the questions we’re asked most often by homeowners considering a major renovation.

Many Perth homes were designed in an era when kitchens, dining rooms and living areas were separate spaces. Removing walls can completely change the way these homes work, creating larger, more connected living areas and a more natural flow through the home.

When a wall is load-bearing, however, there’s much more involved than simply taking it out.

Structural engineering is required to determine how the loads currently supported by the wall will be transferred. During construction, the existing structure needs to be carefully propped and temporarily supported before the wall is removed and the new structural beam is installed.

It takes careful planning and coordination between the builder, engineer and trades to ensure each stage is completed in the correct sequence and the existing home remains properly supported throughout the structural work.

In a couple of these images, you will see an example of industrial design, whereby the structural beam becomes a feature. However, for many homes much of the engineering and beams disappear behind ceilings and finishes. The result? A beautifully connected home with spaces that flow naturally from one to another.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗚𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘂𝗽⚡️// This renovation is moving towards an all-electric home, with gas hot water replaced by electric systems, an induction cooktop, reverse-cycle air conditioning and a modular Sigenergy battery system.

The addition of a whole-home gateway means that if the power goes out in the street, the battery can keep the entire home running, rather than just selected circuits, until the stored power runs out.

It’s a great example of how renovation planning can look beyond finishes and consider how a home will perform well into the future.

𝗟𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 // What a difference. This renovation completely opened up the heart of the home, creating a light-filled kitchen, dining and living space with a seamless connection to the alfresco.

Behind the beautiful finishes was significant structural work. Detailed engineering, removal of existing load-bearing elements and new structural steel beams were required to create the open layout and large stacking-door opening safely.

The result is a home that feels bigger, brighter and far more connected, with a stunning new kitchen at its centre.

𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 // Protection in place everywhere! At this Mount Lawley renovation, the Blackbutt flooring, cabinetry and benchtops are all in, so protecting those finished surfaces while the remaining trades complete their work is essential.

The tiler is finishing the splashbacks, cornices will follow, then it’s over to the painter before we prepare the home for handover.

Everywhere you see ‘green’ in the reel is protection in place to ensure the new work isn’t accidentally scratched or chipped by another trade. This is what a professionally managed renovation looks like.

𝗠𝗕𝗔 𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗗 𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗥 🏆 This stunnig home transformation won Renovations/Extensions $350,000–$500,000 at the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗪𝗔 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 Awards.

There’s much more behind this transformation than the beautiful finished spaces. Significant building works included removing walls, structural engineering and reworking the existing floorplan to create the open, light-filled kitchen, dining and living areas you see today.
