CLIENT REVIEW

We had the pleasure of working with our wonderful client KC on his tenancy in Hawthorn East — transforming a former pole dancing studio into a refined, elegant medical clinic ready for practitioners to move in and thrive.

The brief was to honour the character of the existing building while introducing a fresh, modern feel. We achieved this through timeless finishes, custom joinery, and thoughtful detailing throughout.

A new reception desk and curved feature wall now create a striking street-facing moment, while the interior was reconfigured into four fully functional practitioner offices — maximising both flow and usability.

From concept to completion, the process was seamless, with every detail carefully considered and executed by a highly skilled build team.

“Touch some grass” or in our case, tiles!

Pinterest is cute, but we don’t design from a screen.

We spend time at various suppliers and creative places such as at Riva Ceramica, one of our tile suppliers to not only source real samples but also to gain fresh ideas.

Seeing materials in person sparks new ideas for applications, layouts and combinations you’d never think of scrolling a catalogue.

It’s how we stay ahead of trends, understand how materials actually behave, and design spaces that feel considered, not a copy cat of a Pinterest idea.

And not only that: colour, texture, scale and finish can’t be fully perceived online. For our clients we prefer for them to see the minute details and finish, to feel and gain a better sense of the personality each material element brings to a space.

Good design starts with getting your hands on the real thing.

That’s why we focus on designing reception counters that are ergonomic, have soothing colours as well as soft lighting. We focus on how we can create a sense of calm and comfort the moment patients set foot in the door.

MONDAYS ARE FOR MOODBOARDS

One of the many effective tools we love to use to communicate the direction we would like to take a project in terms of aesthetics, feel, look, and overall experience.

To us mood boards aren’t just to showcase the materiality. They’re used to bring to light anything that has brought considerable inspiration. From art to photographs, from fashion to a particular colour or texture.

In this case we were inspired by anime classics such as Astroboy, and Japanese rice paper lanterns.
