A huge congratulations to The West Australian Quilters' Association Inc. on reaching this incredible milestone — 50 wonderful years of quilting, creativity, friendship and community! 🥳
We were incredibly proud to sponsor the fabulous Gloria Loughman as guest speaker for this very special Gala Event, held last Saturday in the magnificent Perth Town Hall.
It was a fabulous afternoon celebrating alongside past presidents, long-standing members, new members and some of WA’s most talented quilters made the occasion truly memorable. It was wonderful to hear from the first President of the Association and the history of how it all began. The delicious High Tea, spectacular setting and wonderful company created an afternoon that felt every bit as special as this remarkable anniversary deserved.🤩
And a very well-deserved HATS OFF to the incredible committee and everyone behind the scenes who brought this top-notch celebration together. 🙌🙌
Fun Fact! The West Australian Quilters’ Association, founded in August 1976, is the second-oldest quilting guild/association in Australia — beaten only by Canberra Quilters Inc., established just two months earlier!

Alright, let's talk ruler work — because we know it looks scary until someone actually shows you what's going on.
Michelle's biggest tip? It's about planning your path before you even start stitching. Every stop is a thread to tie off and a new one to secure, and that time adds up quick. So the trick is mapping out a route that keeps you moving as long as possible before you have to break — fewer stops, fewer tails to bury, cleaner finish.
Then she just... shows you.

The results are IN: and they're stunning! 😍🎨

After 3 days of learning, stitching, and playing with colours under Gloria Loughman guidance, our workshop participants created these gorgeous abstract wall hangings — and we just have to share a few standouts with you!

Each piece showcases an individual style, from bold colour combinations to intricate appliqués and embroidered details. Some are using their own designs inspired by personal stories and travels. No two are alike — proof that when you give a group of creative stitchers the same starting point, magic happens in wonderfully different ways.
So much talent in one room! Congratulations to everyone on your beautiful pieces. Looking forward to see them completed in their full glory. 👏🪡

That's a wrap on our "Playing on the Surface" workshop with the amazing Gloria Loughman! Three jam-packed days of colour, creativity, and stitching later, our talented group has walked away with beautiful one-of-a-kind abstract wall hangings — and a whole lot of new skills in machine embroidery and appliqué.

Huge thanks to Gloria Loughman for sharing her expertise and inspiring everyone to push their creative boundaries. And of course, thank you to every participant who brought their enthusiasm, colour sense, and hard work to the table (literally!) each day.

Yesterday was the midway through our 3-day workshop and the creativity is in full swing!

Layers of shapes are taking form, and the design work inspired by Gloria's beautiful "Kimberley Mystique" is really starting to shine through. Every piece is looking wonderfully unique!
