So special getting to step inside this beautiful Subiaco renovation by my gorgeous friend Kristie Kristie Hill & Team - Perth Interior Design Studio

I absolutely love seeing what my talented friends create, and Kristie has done such an incredible job with this home. So many beautiful moments, but this underground cellar was definitely one of my favourites.

So proud of you Kristie you clever thing 🫶🏻

Variations are where budgets bleed, and variations come from decisions made while trades are standing on site waiting.

Almost all of it is avoidable when the design is resolved before construction starts. It’s the single biggest budget protection in a Perth renovation.

Claremont renovation.

Banded curtains are the kind of detail I hold out for the right room to use. We saved them for the formal rooms, the spaces that could carry them.

Worth the wait.

I’ve put together a practical guide to planning a renovation in Perth. Real timelines, the order to make decisions in, and the mistakes I see most often.

It’s on the journal now. Link in bio.

This Claremont home hadn’t changed since the eighties. The new owners bought it knowing it needed to stop looking like the eighties before they’d move a single box in. So we got to work while they stayed put in their old place, and they moved into the version you’re swiping through.

Same bones. New everything else. The render walls stayed, the void stayed, the staircase stayed. We just gave them something worth framing.

The wall you wake up facing matters more than most people give it credit for. In this Marmion bedroom, the dark timber panelling and integrated headboard were designed together as one piece of joinery, not assembled from separate furniture. That is the difference between a room that holds together and one that just has nice things in it.

Not every home needs a full renovation. This one needed the carpet gone, the walls freshened, better lighting, and furniture chosen with the whole room in mind. The bones were already there.

Cold Sunday night energy. This is the part of the house that comes alive after dinner. The joinery and lighting is designed here to feel warm and low without being dark.

This is what a living room wall looks like before and after the joinery arrives. Raw plaster, wiring, and builder’s markings become a wall of dark timber cabinetry that houses the television, conceals the cables, and anchors the entire room. That transformation only happens when the joinery is designed as architecture, not as furniture.
