Mattress on the floor?

Technically, yes. If you’re moving house, waiting on a new base or just need a temporary setup for a few nights, it can be perfectly workable.

For longer term use though, there are a few things worth thinking about.

Airflow
When a mattress sits directly on the floor, there is very little space underneath for air to circulate.

Moisture
Depending on the room, the flooring and the time of year, reduced airflow can make moisture harder to dry out, particularly in rooms that already get humid or have condensation issues.

Support
The surface underneath your mattress can also affect how it feels and performs. A hard floor may feel supportive, but that does not necessarily mean it is the right foundation for the mattress.

Long Single or King Single, what’s actually the difference?

They’re both 203 cm long. The real difference is the width.

🛏️ Long Single: 92 × 203 cm
More sleeping length while preserving valuable floor space.

🛏️ King Single: 107 × 203 cm
The same length, with an extra 15 cm of sleeping width.

That 15 cm might not sound like much, but it can make a noticeable difference depending on how you sleep and how much space you have in the bedroom. A wider mattress gives you more room to move, while the narrower Long Single can leave more space for bedside tables, wardrobes, desks and walking clearance.

Not every mattress is designed to move with an adjustable bed.

Two mattresses. Same 30 cm height. Would you expect them to feel the same?

Probably not.

Mattress thickness only tells you how tall the mattress is. It does not tell you how those centimetres are being used.

One mattress may devote more depth to its pocket spring support system, while another may use more of that space in the comfort layers. Both can be 30 cm high, yet feel very different when you lie on them.

Ever slept in a hotel and wondered why the mattress felt so comfortable?

Here’s what many people get wrong:

A hotel bed isn’t necessarily extremely soft.

Many hotels choose a medium to medium-firm mattress with a cushioned surface and steadier support underneath.

But the right feel also depends on how you sleep:

Side sleepers often need more cushioning around the shoulders and hips.
Back sleepers may prefer balanced, steady support.
Stomach sleepers usually need less sinkage through the centre of the body.

And remember, the firmest mattress isn’t automatically the most supportive.

Before choosing, lie down in your usual sleeping position, check for pressure around your shoulders and hips, test the edge, move around and compare more than one firmness level.
