This project called for bespoke design.

For a lover of vintage hifi, it is difficult to find cabinetry that fits the larger profile of the older pieces and vinyl record storage. It also needed to fit perfectly into the space under the staircase.

Throw in a whisky shelf, jarrah benchtop and custom neon sign, and you get a funky space that gives underground New York bar vibes.

I love making the most of space.

At purchase, the laundry was under the staircase. This wouldn’t necessarily be an issue… if there wasn’t already another laundry space 🤨

So the laundry went back to where it came from and now we have this stylish yet practical coffee-bar-by-day, whisky-bar-by night 😍

Project 4 - Studio/Retreat, Darlington

The original 1970s bar and games room occupied half of the freestanding brick shed.

Other than the original jarrah parquetry floors, which were repaired and restored, a complete refit made this space a functional, fresh and versatile retreat.

Project 3 - Second Storey Addition, Darlington

Adding a master bedroom and ensuite to this family home was necessary to accommodate the growing family. The NSW Blackbutt timber staircase added both a practical and design element to the entrance and parent's retreat that awaited.

Project 2 - Bathroom Renovation, Darlington

With all of the fixtures in the wrong spot, this dark, 70s blue bathroom required a full rework to make the space functional as for a family.

Adding a full-size bath, beautiful spacious shower and double sink vanity made this bathroom a delight to use everyday.

Project 1 - New Build, Mount Helena

Seems like a lifetime ago now. Our second house, but first new build. Flipping the plan for a long, narrow house into a homestead with a veranda to suit the country block was a game-changer. Making changes to the project plan within our budget ended up being nominated for an award and got me thinking I might be good at this...

Are you sensing a green theme…

A standout feature of this house was the stonework on the front porch, so using the colours in that to inform the interior scheme seemed fitting.

I am in ❤️ with the green and antique bronze combo. The fireplace and stone feature was one of the selling points for this home.

At first glance I thought the timber mantle was cedar, maybe teak if I was lucky. Turns out I won the lottery and it is jarrah! Polyurethane varnish yellows over time, so 50 years of degradation took its toll and completely changed the tone and look of the timber. But now it is revived and ready for another 50 years.
