Not every job we take on is easy, and some are the kind you never want to receive the call for.

Recently, we were called to a property after a tragic loss of life. In our line of work, these are the calls that stay with you. We were asked to help make the site safe, decommission the solar and battery system, and assist in returning the home to the family in a safe state.

The situation required an urgent emergency response. We pulled people from other job sites so we could attend immediately.

Over the next 4 long days, our team safely decommissioned a complex DIY solar installation that included more than 180 solar panels, batteries, capacitors, and an extensive network of changeover switches, DIY cable runs, and had to strip out and redo the switchboard.

This post isn’t about blame. It’s about awareness.

Electrical work, especially involving solar and battery systems, is incredibly dangerous when it’s not designed and installed by qualified professionals. No amount of money saved is worth risking your life or leaving your family to deal with the consequences.

If there’s one message we hope people take away from this, it’s this: No DIY project is worth your life.
