// East Meets Elegance - Transforming my client's home into their own personal sanctuary has been an absolute joy.

We retained the entryway furniture, including the antique lacquer cabinetry, and complemented it with a soft floral wall mural and carefully curated decor for an elegant entryway experience.

To lighten the entire home, which was a priority for our client, we chose a low sheen warm white neutral for the walls and crisp white satin finish for the trims. This made the living space exude a relaxed elegance. We grounded the room with a large watercolour area rug in blue and blush tones, which beautifully harmonised with the combination of textiles and styling details to complete the space.

The family room is a seamless blend of Eastern artistry and European elegance. The peacock and blossom wall mural sets the stage for the existing navy velvet seating and a French bergère chair, all anchored by a large layered rug underfoot. The small beige side tables provide a convenient spot for setting down tea during leisurely conversations, completing the space beautifully.

In the primary bedroom, art meets comfort. A sweeping watercolour mural in sunset blues and burnt oranges creates a stunning backdrop for the classic timber and upholstered bed, perfectly styled with layered botanical bedding and textured throws. Fitting perfectly between a pair of ornate black side tables, styled with a gorgeous pair of tapered glass lamps adorned with antique bronze fittings and a crisp white shade.

For the guest retreat, we aimed for timeless warmth. We preserved the existing rich timber furniture and paired it with soft blue chinoiserie-style bedding they already had, while adding vintage-inspired arched mirrors on each side to open up the space. Layering neutral cushions to create a relaxed yet refined atmosphere for guests to enjoy.

And in winter, those layers aren't just decorative, they're functional. The right textile choices add warmth you can see AND feel.

Here's my designer formula for layering textiles that look intentional, not chaotic:

1. Start with the largest layer (the rug) — this anchors everything

2. Add your mid-layer (cushions and throws) — vary textures, keep tonal

3. Finish with accent textiles (table runners, ottomans, poufs)

The golden rule? Mix at least three different textures but keep the colour palette tight.

The secret? It's not about the colour itself. It's about the undertone.

Warm undertones (red, yellow, orange) make a space feel intimate, welcoming and grounded. Cool undertones (blue, green, grey) feel fresh and open - but can veer cold in winter light.

For June, I'm loving:

☕ Deep terracotta

🍂 Warm taupe with red undertones

🌿 Muted sage (yes - sage reads warm when it leans yellow)

🌕 Creamy off-white (always choose warm over bright white)

Warmth in interior design is achieved through a carefully considered combination of five key principles: colour, texture, material, light and scale. When you get these right, your home stops feeling like a house and starts feeling like a haven.

In this carousel I'm breaking down each principle so you can start applying them to your own space today - whether you're doing a full renovation or simply refreshing what you already have.

Let’s begin with colour. Selecting the right hues can instantly transform a room, creating an atmosphere that resonates with comfort and coziness. Opt for warm tones like rich browns, deep reds, or soft creams to evoke a sense of welcoming warmth.

Next, consider texture. Incorporating a variety of textures adds depth and interest to your space. Think about plush rugs, soft throws, or woven baskets that invite touch and create a tactile experience.

Material choice is another crucial factor. Natural materials such as wood, stone, and wool not only bring warmth but also imbue a space with authenticity and timelessness.

Lighting plays a pivotal role in setting the mood. Layered lighting - combining ambient, task, and accent lighting - creates a dynamic environment that can be adjusted to suit different moods and times of day.
