📣 We’re closing at 3:30 this Friday, 16 October.

Half an hour earlier than usual — apologies if that catches anyone out.

The whole team is off to the gala dinner for the South Australian Premier’s Business & Export Awards, where we’ve somehow found ourselves a finalist. Glad rags are required, and we need the extra half hour to get into them.

Normal hours resume on Saturday — though do be a little gentle with us. Whatever the result, we’ll have been celebrating getting this far.

Knitted Kalevala III is Jenna Kostet’s final volume drawing on the Kalevala, Finland’s national epic — and she has gone out properly.

Eighteen patterns: nine sweaters, four pairs of socks, two short-sleeved tops, a vest, a cardigan and mittens. Each one inspired by a different poem and woven through with mythology and old symbolism. Classic yokes, modern colourwork, and a few gentler projects if you’re easing into colourwork for the first time.

🧶 Guess who’s back!

ChiaoGoo’s Interchangeable Tunisian Hook Sets have landed again — it’s been more than a year since we could get them, and we’re so pleased to see them on the shelf.

If you’ve never used one: Moso bamboo hooks from 3.5mm to 10mm, laser-marked sizes that never rub off, screwing onto ChiaoGoo’s red TWIST cables. Which means a blanket-width piece of Tunisian without wrestling one enormous hook, and a size change in about four seconds.

The shop after dark, desserts that deserve the name, and a properly fun quiz with some very cool prizes. Expect divas. Expect yarn. Expect at least one question you’ll shout the answer to before you can stop yourself. Come with friends and make a team, or come on your own and we’ll find you your people. Tiaras optional, but we’d love to see you sparkle.

Ticket holders also get first access to The Good Fight, our Knit for the Girls colourway hand-dyed in our own studio, before it goes online the following day. Last year’s sold out within minutes, so you’ll want to be in the room.

People’s Choice goes to Nugget the punk rock c**k, made by Jude O — the most individual votes of the whole flock. Nugget loves rocking out in the pit, his favourite band is the Buzzc**ks, and he hopes to one day sing in his own band. Consider this his first standing ovation.

Our Judges’ Special Prize for Best Ensemble went to Ellie S and her five Star Wars chooks — Princess Lay-a, Hen Solo, Obi Wan Henobi, Kylo Hen and Chookbacca. And Hendrika Help-me-cross, made by Philippa O, took Most Likely to Cross the Road as a hardworking lollypop lady hen.

Will we do it again in 2027? We’d love to — but we’re going to need more hen houses across the Port if it gets any bigger! No battery hen conditions here. Every chook deserves room to roam.

Thank you to everyone who made a chook, voted, visited, or just stood at the window grinning. You made it.

🐔 Last day. The chooks fly the coop tonight.

Pay your respects to Eggatha Chickstie, Best Resting Hen Face, quietly building a case against us this entire time. And marvel at the sheer number of ways a human being can knit a chicken.

🧶 Yarn avalanche, safely contained.

Fiber Lily is back. Kylie’s LYS exclusive colours turned up in one enormous glorious heap, and they’re now tucked up on the shelves in tidy rows, waiting to be adopted.

Fiber Lily has the most pun-tastic colourway names going — reason enough to scroll the whole range on its own. Fair warning though: you’ll go in for the names and come out thoroughly seduced by the colours.

🐔 Most Likely to Rule the Roost — The Great Emotional Support Chook Show

Meet Amy Mae, an Irish dancing, Riverdance superstar chicken, made by Becky E.

The family live in Melbourne but came to Adelaide for the Irish Dancing National Championships, and Amy Mae was styled in honour of their daughter’s favourite dancer. Knitted in Life In The Long Grass Fine Sock in Shadows.

Small but mighty in poise, said the judges. You don’t argue with a chook who can hold that posture.

Congratulations to Dolly Parthen, made by Shae M — glitter, great music, human rights and wealth redistribution. A chook with priorities that clear was always going to take this one.
