Hi there
Welcome to Willow and Trout

I'm Kylie and I have been stitching in some way for as long as I can remember. Hoop Art, Mini Embroidery Hoop Necklaces, cushions, Project Sacks and Cloth Pots are my focus using beautiful modern fabrics, upcycling precious vintage linens, hand embroidery and a whole lot of stitchy goodness. You will find my wares at www.willowandtrout.bigcartel.com or you are welcome to contact me here on FB or over at on Instagram.

🪡🧵 Thankyou to everyone who joined us for World Embroidery Day recently.

We had such a lovely day stitching with friends, sharing kindness, laughter, lovely snacks and plenty of cups of tea. It was a wonderful reminder of how special our stitching community is and how much joy can be found in simply gathering together stitching our projects.

We were also delighted to donate $300 to Lifeline Midcoast, thanks to the generosity of everyone who joined us. 🙏🏼

There has been lots of stitchy magic happening in my Stitch Club class lately.
I’ve introduced them to the Bertha Basket.
Named after my nanna, it’s a simple open-top basket, lovingly stitched together with wool blankets, special vintage doilies, favourite fabrics and quirky treasures with an awesome amount of space inside for gathering your favourite things for your next project!

Every Bertha Basket is delightfully different and here are three of my own. I love a pop of modern fabric to go with my vintage bits & pieces. They tell a story of old and new. They’ve quickly become my perfect thing for holding a work in progress, ready to be picked up whenever a few peaceful moments to stitch appear.
I’m completely smitten… and think the Bertha Basket might just become my favourite storage solution.

Trying to get a little sewjo back with my favourite part of quilting….the binding!
May have even broken my ‘no buying the new things’ rule too - and I don’t even feel bad about it either. 🤗

• little curves - I’m not that into you.
• fine pins - love 📍
• spending 25 mins sorting the fine pins from the ‘others’ - totally productive

🌼 Design wall = game changer.

I haven’t been quilting in ages… maybe I was stuck. Maybe it was life in the way.
Last weekend I made a design wall…a proper one, not my previous piece of batting that hung like a curtain on the front of a sliding door. At last there was the motivation and space to put my unfinished blocks from the 2025 retreat with Jess Wheelahan up and make some progress!
Happy with where this one is going 🩵💙🐝

☀️ Op Shop Haul…. Well a few, not just one.
My top tip ➡️ TIME

You have to spend time on the hunt. Go to the op shops that always deliver as well as the ones that never deliver. There just might be that one day when you score. I scored 6 in one shop this week! A shop where I don’t go often because I’ve NEVER been successful there. I took the time to go this week…you never know.

Only one of these bad boys fits in my machine at once. So it takes a while to freshen them up. The weather was perfect today. Sunny and breezy. 🌬️
Pretty soon the autumn and winter sun will shine elsewhere and not on my line… I hope I get 8 more loads of sunshine ☀️🤞🏼
