In September 2020, I had a phone call that quietly changed the course of my life. I spoke with Heather, a local Thermomix team leader, about joining the team to earn my TM6. One call. That’s all it took. Her passion, warmth, and belief in what Thermomix could offer lit a spark in me.
I joined the Hamilton Hero’s team that day, a decision that looking back, was far more significant than I realised. Heather led with grace and ease, always kind, always supportive, and never too busy to answer a question. She’s hands down one of the most thoughtful people I’ve ever had the privilege to work with.
Fast forward to May 2024. Life was full, a baby, long commutes, a busy household, and Thermomix, once a joy, had become a weight I couldn’t carry. I called Heather, worried I was letting her down. But instead of disappointment, I was met with empathy. And then she said something that stopped me in my tracks:
“I want you to come back ready to go and become a team leader.”
Me? A leader? I was stunned. But Heather wasn’t joking, she saw something in me I didnt yet seen in myself.
I took the break. Six months to find my feet as a mum, to recalibrate. But I missed it, the connection, the fun, the purpose, and yes, the incentives. I returned in January this year, and by April, both Heather and Nat had gently nudged me to give leadership a go. “You’ve got nothing to lose,” they said. And they were right.
Yesterday, I completed the challenge. I shed the “in training” title and officially became a qualified team leader with a growing team of my own. And today, a knock at the door, a beautiful bunch of flowers and a heartfelt note from Heather.
I’m still crying. 🥹🥰
The truth is, I wouldn’t be here without Heather’s unwavering support, her training, and her belief in me. Sometimes, someone else sees your potential before you do, and that’s all it takes.
I hope, with all my heart, that I can be even half the leader Heather has been to me.
So thank you from the bottom of my heart Heather, you truly are one of a kind. 💚
