TORU HATTA 八田亨 - concluding his World Tour in Sydney
MEET THE ARTIST !
ALL WELCOME!
We are absolutely thrilled to announce a Solo Exhibition of his astounding works and Toru Hatta will be here to meet you in person.
Last March we were lucky enough to visit Mr Hatta at his incredible workshop outside of Osaka.
We had been following him since our very first trip Japan in 2013 and have been so pleased to offer his work three times since then, when his busy schedule allows.
Mr Hatta’s passion for flame and making is evident. Superbly timeless shapes with clean lines and resplendent surfaces manifest in an understated aesthetic that speaks directly to his background in design and engineering. In his wood firing studio he gets his hands dirty, with a drive to see glazes explode into subtle galaxies of colour.
It’s more than a studio, it’s a world of passion. And a world that we are very pleased to share with you, with Mr Hatta in person.
We will also have limited signed numbers of Mr Hatta’s new book published to coincide with his World Tour last year.
PLEASE JOIN US on the night, and stay tuned for talks and demonstration while Mr Toru Hatta enjoys Sydney and all it has to offer.

Each month, I fire up the kiln.
The work I place in the kiln will vary each time, with vessels and dishes numbering in the hundreds, and if large items such as jars or pots are inserted, then over a hundred.
Grinding away at the potter’s wheel, I give shape to my work, placing them into the kiln according to the pyroprocessing schedule, and firing it up. It is a simple process that repeats itself, over and over again. The greatest joys of this work are experienced when the pottery emerges, baked and finished, from the kiln. Pottery cannot be completed by oneself. In the end, I leave everything to the kiln. And that is precisely why it can result in something that can transcend even my imagination.
