One of our favourite parts of a new project is when the possibilities are still wide open.

We pull together images we keep coming back to: an interesting piece of joinery, a beautifully proportioned room, an unexpected colour combination, artwork, lighting or a detail that sparks an idea.

There’s no expectation that these spaces will be recreated. Instead, they help us build a picture of what feels right for this particular home and give us plenty to explore as the design develops.

A few pages from the concept boards for a new project currently underway in the studio.

A guest bedroom designed for the younger members of the family, with plenty of thought given to making it feel welcoming without being too childlike.

Twin upholstered beds, classic gingham and layers of soft, natural tones create a space that feels comfortable and familiar, while still sitting beautifully alongside the rest of the home.

Simple, practical and designed to be enjoyed for years to come.

Good interiors shouldn’t come with an expiry date.

While trends can be a great source of inspiration, we’re always conscious of creating homes that won’t feel dated in a few years’ time.

For this Burradoo bedroom, we chose classic furniture shapes, natural materials and a restrained palette, allowing the character to come through in the proportions, detailing and combination of pieces rather than anything overtly trend-led.

The aim isn’t to create a home that belongs to a particular year, but one that will continue to feel relevant and loved for many years to come.

A statement piece doesn’t need to dominate a room to make an impact.

In this Burradoo entry, the sculptural linen pendant immediately draws the eye, bringing softness and a sense of scale to an otherwise classic space.

We love using lighting as an opportunity to introduce something a little unexpected, a piece that adds personality and interest, while still sitting comfortably within the architecture and the wider home.

Emily has been part of the studio since 2019 and, over the years, has become an integral part of the way our projects come together.

With a Diploma in Interior Design, Em works across everything from early concepts and interior selections through to spatial planning, joinery design and detailed documentation.

She has a particular strength for the technical side of design, taking an idea and working through the detail required to make it happen while always keeping sight of the overall vision for the space.

After more than six years, it’s hard to imagine the studio without her.

A little studio update.

Our project schedule for 2026 is now fully booked and we have officially closed our books for new projects for the remainder of the year.

We’re incredibly grateful to have such a full year ahead, with some wonderful projects currently underway and plenty happening behind the scenes.

We’ll be taking on new projects from February/March 2027, so if you’re considering working with Halvorsen Interiors next year, now is a good time to start the conversation.

Enquiries for 2027 are welcome via our website.

One of the most important parts of our job is getting to know our clients, not just what they like, but how they want their home to feel.

For this Burradoo project, our role was to furnish and decorate the existing spaces, selecting pieces that felt completely at home within the house while reflecting the personality and style of the people who live there.

That understanding builds over time. It means our clients can trust us to make decisions on their behalf, knowing every piece has been considered as part of the bigger picture.

A bathroom doesn’t need to be large to feel generous.

Here, the wall-mounted vanity keeps the floor visible, the frameless shower avoids visually dividing the room, and the oversized mirror extends the sense of space beyond its actual footprint.

Small decisions that make a compact bathroom feel much bigger than it is.

A project beginning to show its character.

There’s a point during construction when you can finally start to read the spaces as they were intended and we’re getting there on this one.

Good interiors start well before the furniture arrives. At this stage, it’s the architectural elements that are beginning to define how each room will ultimately feel, the proportions, sightlines, ceiling details and the relationship between one space and the next.

Here, repeated archways create a visual language throughout the home, while coffered ceilings and changes in scale give individual spaces their own identity.

Still very much a work in progress, but an exciting stage to see the bones of the design really starting to take shape.

One of the things we think about throughout every project is the view beyond.

How does one room lead into the next? What catches your eye? Does the home feel connected without every space feeling the same?

When those sightlines are carefully considered, the result is a home that feels cohesive, balanced and calm from every angle.
