We are thrilled to share that two of our projects have been shortlisted for the Australian Design Review 2026!
Both The Dame and The Atrium are shortlisted in the Residential Single category.

Thank you to the Australian Design Review team for recognising our work, and to our photographers and stylists who help capture the essence of our projects.

Congratulations to all the other designers and studios shortlisted this year. The calibre of the 2026 projects is exceptional.

The heart of The Dame

Original fireplaces, recycled materials, treasured furniture and a lifetime of collected objects come together to create a room that feels lived in rather than styled.
Every piece has space to breathe. Every detail contributes to the story.

THE DAME

Very excited to finally be able to share this project with you, featured in

The Dame had a clear instruction for us: don’t ruin my soul. An old building with age and heritage worth protecting, she asked to be listened to rather than reimagined. We obliged. The existing room configuration was retained entirely, preserving the spatial logic and character that made her worth saving in the first place.

Where intervention was needed, a walk-in robe, an ensuite, one bedroom was sensitively converted rather than demolished. A new addition accommodating an extra bedroom and bathroom was introduced to meet contemporary living requirements, but designed to defer to the original fabric rather than compete with it.

The Dame remains herself, restored, respected, and quietly remarkable.

MADE JOURNAL

“Can you describe what the ‘3 Words and a Song’ method is and how to use it”?

AC - Before I draw a single line I ask every client for three things: a project name, three words describing
how they want to feel in their home, and a song.
The name creates ownership.
The three words give us an emotional brief that sits above all the practical decisions. And the song does something no words can fully do.
It holds a feeling. When you are six months into a project and facing a hundred small decisions, you go back to the song.
It tells you whether you are still on track.

For ‘Seven Days’, the song was Sting’s Seven Days; the song is in 5/4, an irregular, slightly restless rhythm. The song is very considered and a little melancholic. Offbeat, rustic, effortless were the three words.
The name and song felt so strong so we chose the same. Together they made every decision easier.

Iain McGilchrist, the psychiatrist and philosopher whose work on the divided brain has changed
how I think about a lot of things, describes two fundamentally different ways of attending to the world.

The left hemisphere attends to the parts. In my world as an interior designer that is what specifies a grout colour, resolves a joinery detail, writes a schedule of finishes.
Brilliant at precision and ex*****on.
